MyBB can do that. Personally I give directly to causes I think worthy of my donation. I will not give to blanket organizations where the overheads take a chunk of the donation.

Because not everyone is as well equipped to deal with the emotional guilt trip overload you put on them from your high horse.

In psychology, this is called the transaction between Critical parent, rebellious child. Yourself being the former and the rest of the forum the latter.
I'll be honest, I was 1 tiny little decision away called "fsck this guy and his high handed approach" but my adult kicked in and overruled my rebellious child response.

More than likely, there are some people you've driven away from donating/commenting simply because of your non-adult approach.

Stop with the shaming and drama and appeal to the adult in each of us, to the good nature in each of us. You get more results that way. People respond a lot better to a smile than to a frown.

Think of all the R10's you have cost the thread with your high handed shaming approach.

Agree with you, and I'm happy to see such an initiative, but I'm not sure if it's about people just being dicks.

It's more a question of why Knysna is so special. Where are the donation threads for other sorts of social issues across the country?

Virtually in parallel to the Knysna fires, people were being killed and displaced in the Cape storms, and the damage done was arguably more widespread. Where is the donation thread for that?

I think it started with a post from Mila, a member here, questioning why MyBB was doing nothing to raise money for Knysna.
 
Kinda saw the thread but don't consider myself community since I never got a hoodie.

Without proper branding we're just a bunch of hooligans accessing the same website, not?

Got nothing against Knysna tho, sorry for my white capitalist gay ass causing so much destruction..

Blah blah blah. If I had started a thread saying "Please, guys comment here so MyBB donates" I can guarantee it would have faded into obscurity in minutes. The fact is there was a thread visible at the top of the forum page for two days and it managed to raise R1000 where it could quite easily have raised 10s of thousands by now if members could be assed. The fact is my approached has gotten around 50 comments in 3 hours as opposed to 100 in two days.

That is a valid point and something to look at in the future. We now know that MyBB can be persuaded to donate to good causes. Maybe we should take at advantage of that in future. But, to not encourage them to help now is just petulant, selfish, fccktardation.
