Hi all, I have no idea whats going on here

I have a telkom account which I use for international, and a separate Openweb local account I use for local downloads. I have 3 PC's all set up at home on a network. I dont use route sentry. I just manually connet to the account I need.

Each PC has had both internet accounts added, so that when you click connnect, it asks for username and password. They are saved so its just a matter of clikcing connect again. When an account is connected, the network connection icon displays in win XP system tray. So far so good.

Up until recently this was going fine, but suddenly my Telkom Cap kept dissapearing,

The other day something else weird happened. I had connected on my Openweb account and was downloading some local items, but when I looked again later for the connection icon, it was not there. The open web account had used up all its cap and had disconnected. This happens often, and I then get a new account. However, what was strange was that while I was not connected my torrents where still downloading. I rechecked my accounts and none were connected( no system tray network icons were visible ) What happened is that somehow my PC connects to the net automatically without me asking to connect any account, and I think it defaults to my Telkom account, when Openweb cap is finished. It also does not display a connection icon in the system tray when it does this. Does anybody have any idea whay or how this happens. I want to disable this as my Telkom cap get chewed up whenever my openweb cap finishes.

I can also turn on my PC and just click a favourite page, and I go there, without actually having to connect now. Is this a router setting? Or is this an automatic connection/reconnect setting, or is it an account setup setting. I dont recall changing anything on any of the PC's, but this is how they are working now. Is it something more sinister like malware/bots? My thoughts is it is the router as it suddenly happened to all 3 PC's. I dont know what to check though on the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Its probably a setting ticket called on demand, or persistent connection on the router. Its either always on or connects when required.

If you want to use separate accounts for local and international you should really look at setting up ipcop. Its a breeze to setup and will give much less problems than the manual connection you have going.

It used to work fine, and I dont need to split local and intenational traffic. I use them at different times.

I dont have a problem connecting manually, in fact that is how I want it to be, so I can choose which account i want to use.

I just dont understand why this happens suddenly, as I have changed nothing. I cant understand how the PC connects to the net, without me having to click connect. It seems to always be connected now, from startup.

I will look at those settings though.

EDIT: Went into my router settings and looked around. I see my main telkom account details username and password were entered there. Thinking back I think I may have entered these when I was having hassles setting up my xbox for xbox live. I removed the password from the router and rebooted. The PC now wont connect unless I manually click my Account, and click connect. Problem solved.

Majority of problems are related to pebkac errors :D
