Hi ALL!

Sorry, skimmed the first few pages to see if anyone else posted this already. There was one post:
Laptop for Diablo 3 & Guild wars 2:
Basically my GF wants to get herself a new laptop.
I simply asked how much and what for?
Her response was: 15k max to 7k min
I want to play GW2 (currently have her lug her Crosair Case to mine and it is getting a bit much).

I know she will also need space, she loves her music, movies and series.
She loves the led back light keyboards.
She would be happy with either a 17 or 19", in her words: "I'll just plug it into the monitor"
I really don't know that much about laptops so was wondering if you guys/gals could possibly help me and help her.

So to sum it up:
Price: R7 000 - R15 000
Reason: Portable Gaming laptop for GW2
Preferences: Led back light keyboard
Bonus: 1-2tb Storage for all her music, movies and series.

Thanks for your time :)

Gaming laptops aren't really portable, since they're heavy & big.

Rather get a laptop with 1TB storage and then get like a TB external, otherwise you'll be paying one heck of a lot on 2.5" HDD's!

Lastly, the laptops that are considered as decent gaming laptops usually start at like R16k. So she'll most likely have to settle for the best spec'd laptop for R15k to be able to play D3/GW2 at good quality and framerate.

www.laptopdirect.co.za is a good place to start looking for laptops. From there on you can search on Google/Pricecheck/Shopmania/Jump for better prices on that specific model.

I am able to run Tera (Yes its not GW2 but i am sure its similar in graphics performance) on high graphic settings at 1366x768. I have an i5 laptop with a GT540. So look for something equal or higher than a GT540.

And i agree with Pada, rather get an external drive for the storage.

The resolution has a massive effect on the framerate. So with a poor resolution such as 1366x768 you don't need a high end graphics card & CPU, but at 1920x1080 it is a different story. You'll basically need a graphics card that is 2x stronger to have the same framerate at 1920x1080.

The GT540m is a reasonably good graphics card and I won't recommend anything below it.

You can get a good comparison of mobile graphics cards at notebookcheck.

Yup, thats the main reason i mentioned my res ;)

HP Envy 17 17.3" notebook @ R11999

Games will all run on medium to high settings and you'll have very few issues with performance or build quality. Buy it now and thank me later. Its really the best choice you can make at R12000

At the other end of the spectrum you can get the Lenovo Y570 @ R8307. Its the same GT555M used in the Alienware 14x, and won't give you any hassles either.

Get her to buy a 15 inch laptop and a decent keyboard/mouse. Will work out better.

EDIT:

Or better yet build a micro ATX PC in a small form factor case. If you are serious about games, nothing else will do.
