Hi there

I am in need of some help to get my Huawei DSL modem connected to my Telkom account.

Huawei HG630b Home Gateway

- The account and line works perfect on an older Netgear modem I have. I’m having issues with the Wifi on the
Netgear modem, so want to get the Hauwei up and running.
- The Huawei modem was bought and used in New Zealand on the Spark network.
- The DSL is syncing perfectly on the Huawei, but for some reason I can’t get the internet light to go on or work.
- I’m under the impression that I’m just a noob with the settings, and that’s the reason it doesn’t want to work.
Looking for input on what to change to get it working.

I’m attaching screenshots etc of the settings etc.

Huawei Modem - Notice ADSL light shows sync'ed but no Internet light.

What are the below settings and which one should I choose?

What about these settings? Something I need to change?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Find out if Telkom supports PPPoA... as that Modem might not have PPPoE which SA uses....

"DSL Link Type" might be the issue
Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM (PPPoA)
Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE)

Not sure if that's the case but if it is then that one will never work unfortunately

If my info is still correct, Telkom only uses PPPoE on their ADSL network.

If all else fails, just set up the Huawei as an Access Point and disable the Netgear's WiFi.

Thanks for the help guys. I've tried changing some settings (remember - Some of these things are alien to me) in order to try and get the PPPoE option, none of which has resulted in success so far. But I have noticed the following in the help file on the modem >

Why then won't the PPPoE option show up? Could it be that spark just obfuscated the option on their custom firmware?

Hi latro,

Try this:

You need to reconfigure the ADSL interface under Basic > Link interface down the left hand side menu.
Under ADSL ATM connection profile change the DSL link type from PPPoA to EoA.
Ensure VPI/VCI is 8/35 and Encapsulation mode is LLC then click Submit to save.

Then again under the left hand side menu go to Basic > WAN
Under WAN Connection ensure your connection has a Connection type of IP routed PPPoE and username and password details are correct.
Click Submit to save.
