Help..UTD plus AP

Ok, this has pro'lly been answered already, but I can't find it and Rodent's FAQ doesn't cover this.

I need to set up an iBurst UTD so that around 6 notebooks can share a connection via WiFi.

Unfortunately the problem is that I have been supplied the UTD (which I can get working via normal ethernet (cat-5) connection-with the crappy iburst driver software) together with a D-Link DWL-2100P Access point (to which I am able to get all the notebooks to connect), but I don't know how to connect to iBurst thru the AP.

Is it possible? Help!!:confused:
 
You will need a wireless router to connect Iburst directly to more than 1 pc, if i'm not mistaken you have a Access point only, so you cant connect the UTD straight to the AP. However that just means you have to connect the UTD via ethernet to one PC and then share it with ICS (internet connection sharing), this shouldn't be too hard, but there can be problems. Get a wireless router if you can rather!

I would think you just have to right click the Iburst connection and set it to be shared, if there is such an option it would be under advanced like a regular dial-up connection, but this might not be there. I could install my UTD via ethernet and check how to do the whole thing for you as I have a AP, but thats a las so try and sort it out with ICS, i'm shure someone can help...
 
Sorry aint gonna work with just an AP. You need a router as well, or a router with a built in AP e.g. I have a D-Link DI-624+, but most other brands of broadband routers (with Ethernet not ADSL WAN port) will do the job as well ... Linksys , Gigabyte etc.

Not really feasible to use ICS... i'll get the AP replaced with a router in that case!

Utd +router +ap

Riiiight....

Took the advice and have secured a router (no wireless ones available so I have a D-Link DI-604 router, a separate AP (Dlink dwl-2100AP, and a iBurst UTD).

I have set up the router to connect via PPPoE and the router page says that it is connected (IP address, DNS server all appear). However I cannot get access to the internet from my PC thru the router (not even using the AP yet.) Have I forgotton something or am I just stupid?

hmm... there shouldn't be any problems, but I dont know anything about DLink routers. but what are you planning to do with that setup, I might be missing something but arent you in the same position as you were without the router? Your just connecting to your pc via the the router instead of directly with ethernet?? Or are you jst doing that to bypass ICS, witch I would think you still have to do.. sorry maby i'm not understanding. How are you gonna connect the other laptops now, i thaught you would have to get a wireless router.
 
Thanks for all the suggestions....I found the problem: I am stupid.

I set static IPs for all to ensure no DHCP server conflicts, and then forgot to specify a gateway and DNS server in Win XP.

Working like a charm now!

Like they (whoever they might be) always say: The first step is admitting you have a problem :D
