Helpdesk from hell

Ongoing problem despite numerous promises from various CEO's that this would be addressed.

Clearly there is no 'will' to effect change for the positive, so why the hell do they even bother.

I suppose that mediocrity is something TELKOM as a company strive for, just never quite getting there.
Heaven forbid we ask for average service levels as consumers.

I suppose being protected by government allows one to sit back and just do nothing.

To be fair, sometimes it does work efficiently. I have had several experiences where the response has been quick and efficient. But the horror stories do seem to carry on. :(

I'm sorry, I did not experiance any of this type of service. Dare I say, it was pretty good. I also used the callback option and 20 or so minutes later they called back, normally I don't answer numbers I do not know at night, so I almost did not answer it.

All this near 11pm.

Helldesk, not helpdesk :D

I do hope that Altech wins the court case, and can start to self-provision - this will be a major boost to the economy.

I think the dumbest employees in Telkom end up in their "help desk", the second from dumbest end up installing the ADSL lines, and the smartest are their lawyers.

longest i ever had to hold before the callback option was 2hours 16min.

now with the callback - 1hour 44min.

brilliant improvement imho :D

I have to agree here as well, I've never really had issues with them, I guess it also helps when they are talking to someone who knows what they are doing.

If they ask you a technical question and can answer it... it helps.

My average hold time for the ADSL helpdesk is just over 45 mins.

*many unhappy memories of telkom helldesk*

I will refrain from commenting on them as the language that I need to use to truly bring my feelings about the subject across might get me banned

Same here. What do people expect though? The dumb procedure of "is your router on? can you see the lights? unplug and plug it back on, enter your password correctly, whats the number of the dsl line" has to be said, which wastes a good 10mins of everyones time.

Don't be sorry, be happy.

I think the call-back option only works during office hours. I called them quite often these last few weeks. I have never gotten a reponse in under an hour.

i once used the call back and got them back to me in about 25 min iirc. but agreed that even that is unacceptable. at least it's a toll free number unlike the multichoice one where on a number of occassions i've waited for over 5 minutes before putting the phone down.

telkom, telkom, what k@k service.
its easy to set up a router, takes 5min, but the problem lies when you need your username and password, i don't know why they don't want to give it to you in the store with the damn router!
i've had to call em four times before and later on will be the fifth.
1 for myself, on a friday coupla months back, stayed on the line for 60min, then tried again, second time i waited 40min.
2 for my cousin, also coupla months ago, waited 30 min, turned out her line was faulty.
3 for my neighbour, last week, waited 30 min, had a brilliant assistant pick up the phone though, really knew his sh*t, his name was sherwin!
4 for another cousin, last night, at 8pm, after waiting an hour the guy tells me "can't access info, phone tomorrow" what a dumbass.

make sure you have a cordless handset, so you could do other things while waiting

Telkom has one ADSL Call Centre and only 75 (could b 175, my mind doesn't work all that good no more) odd ppl working there with 420000 ADSL lines to look after.

I have never had good service from Telkom and have never held for less than 40min to log a fault with the ADSL Call Centre.

Fortunately i only had to phone them on one occasion since getting telkom ADSL...it took them about 30 minutes to answer. I remember because i was watching episodes of "The Office" and i was almost halfway through the second episode when they eventually answered. Ridiculous if you ask me.

I think I pulled something after seeing the Telkom ad on the same page as the article :D
