Henry: Ronaldo Better Than Messi

You sure about that? I'm not. It still involves putting the ball pass the keeper. When you take a penalty, the keeper has time to prepare to make the save.

Anyone who has actually played football knows there is no "preparation" the keeper guesses a direction and dives.

The ball comes in at too fast a pace/too close to make the type of save you would do in open play.

ye but knowing which spot is the players favourite is still advantagous ;)

The preparation is that the keeper can decide where to dive to try and save, ie, he has time to make a choice. He can also watch the player taking the kick to suss out any particular direction the ball may go, before the kick gets taken. Anyone who has actually played football knows this.

lol, the best a goalkeeper can do is guess nothing more nothing less.Everything is in the favour of the penalty taker, even the damn wikipedia article on penalties states the same thing I said earlier.

Defending against a penalty kick is one of the most difficult tasks a goalkeeper can face.

Due to the short distance between the penalty spot and the goal, there is very little time to react to the shot to try to make the save. Because of this, the goalkeeper will usually start their dive before the ball is actually struck. In effect, the goalkeeper must act on their best prediction about where the shot will be aimed.

... and the player has to guess where to kick as well, because if he chooses the wrong side, chances are the keeper saves it. Works both ways dude.

PS: I wouldn't let wikipedia be my bible :)

Funny, you use wiki to back up your statements but the times you don't use it and someone like myself uses it to counter your statement, you're nowhere to be seen.

No man. You cant be serious. Most times, even if the keeper guesses the right way, he still doesnt save it.

The ball is hit with such force that the keeper has to dive before the ball is struck to ''try'' and save it. Look at Ronaldo 40 yarder, keeper knew where the ball was going - dived and still missed. Now imagine hitting the ball with that pace from the penalty spot.

Come on man, i thought you have been watching football for a while now.

Can't you guys make another thread for this? Seriously!

Everytime time I see the title, I think HenryJ (yes, I know you are currently hj2ketc) is causing trouble again! :p

99% of players do not hit the ball anywhere near as hard as Ronaldo. They simply choose a side and tap the ball in. This gives the keeper a great chance of saving it.

Oh come on.

Seriously man.

Most players in the league can thump a ball from the penalty spot. Hell, even the goakeeper. Look how far he kicks the ball from his box. Imagine him kicking that hard from a penalty spot.

You seriously cannot believe that a penalty is a tap in.

Ya, me too. Clearly there is no changing your mindset.

Cant believe someone believes that a penalty save is easier than an open play save. My 10 year kid cousin knows a penalty is a gift of a goal.

/moving on.

Who the hell said a penalty save is easier? I said it was equally as hard for both players.

It's clear that your mindset will never change.

Penalty = Goal 95% of the time.

Apperantly it is a special skill to score from the penalty spot cos if the keeper dives the right way, chances are he will save it.

Ever see how the entire stadium and players on the field jump for joy when a penalty is given?
