Well, I know method has got a opinion that is not very flattering of me (my impression, not sure if the case) and mister I am not sure but I think I have taken a dive in his opinions also, but that is ok. If it gets people talking and discussing it openly instead of hiding in their bedroom in shame because they caught something then I think it is worth my rep taking a bit of a dive. I will accept that and try not to think about it too much.

isie as he have said did not even know there is a vaccine for Hep B until this thread and now that he does, he might get it (after education himself a bit more about it). That alone I think justified this thread. One person learnt something useful and can protect himself better should he choose to do so now.

You haven't taken a dive in my opinion. I wouldn't even judge if you were trying to protect yourself to whore it up big time. The reasons I have against it are personal, they are out of scope for this forum, and nothing to do with your behaviour, or stigma.

Was late and just briefly looked, but if babies are being vaccinated then it would appear that the Hep B have made its way into the routine vaccine regimen ... or in some countries at least. Will look into it more tonight.

Hep B is on the EPI schedule in South Africa, and infants get three doses of this vaccine.
At 6, 10 & 14 weeks.

I wonder when this started. I am sure us older folks like in early thirties and up did not have this vaccine. Dont think it existed back then did it?

I'll dig out the babie's clinic card and check what it says.

Ok, on the seven month old, it show's the Hep B vacc,
It also shows on the 13 year old's card, so this seems to have been in place for at least that long?

If I remember correctly it started in 1995 & I think that Hep B was one of the first vaccines on the schedule, though I am not sure.
The adult version of this vaccine is also available from government, however, I don't know how they distribute it as it is not on any schedule, so probably done on a request basis.

Cant remember getting a vaccine in school. No, actually I do. I think I was in std 4 or 5 I think? Cant remember what it was for though. Throughout the day when it was each class's turns they would go to the assembly hall and there stand inline t receive their injection. I wonder what that was for?

I used to feel exactly the same as you when I was younger. In fact, I was telling the swinging couple I met last night (the female anyway) that if they had contacted me back then, I would most likely have had a very ugly response in store. I am glad they did not contact me while I was still in that frame of mind, because I would have insulted a loving and caring and beautiful couple when it was completely uncalled for. I have found that now that I am older, I am open to more kinds of relationships. I have also become less judgemental when it comes to peoples private lives which has got absolutely nothing to do with me anyway, unless they want to share or give me a view of that private life. Open ones being one of them, provided I feel secure enough in that relationship and we have rules. Maybe I have become disillusioned or maybe just a bit more mellow (though I think many on the forum would not agree on that lol)

Do I want to settle down with a guy and call him mine? Yes, I have always wanted that. At this very moment, I am coming out of a bad few years and now is not the time for that though. If I am ever lucky enough to find that guy, then I would not be closed off to a open relationship. I would most likely not be the instigator of it, but if that is something he brought up and asked about, then I would talk it through with him and take it from there.
 
Ok...why is most documentaries that comes up when I search for vaccine documentaries appear to be anti vexxer (is that the term)? I want to see a documentary on how they work, not how they are going to be the end of humanity urg :mad:
 
I had mine done at university because I needed it to work in the uni labs. I had to go back again and again for booster after booster because my immune system didn't respond well to the vaccine at all. Even after something like double the boosters of all my peers I still just barely had an antibody titre qualifying me as immune.

It was inconvenient but painless enough.

Funny thing is I'm allergic to all sorts of stupid non-lethal stuff like dust and pollen but can't react to a Hep B vaccine.

So my immune system overreacts like a motherfscker to unimportant stuff. It drops a nuclear bomb of crazy on dust, pollen and pet dander. However when a real threat like Hepatitis comes along porchie's immune system is totally relaxed and just lets Hep B waltz through the front door and chill on the couch.

I nearly lost a whole semester of lab work at uni because of my inability to respond to that vaccine.

Went Saturday morning to Dischem, bought the vaccine. They gave it to me with a Gel Pack wrapped around it to keep it cool and I kept it in the fridge until I left for the kuier with the paramedics. When the time came for the injection there was a bit of a confrontation as to which one of them will be giving me the injection. In the end the argument of "I am the Advanced life support paramedic. The only thing you are allowed to administer with your paramedic training is activated charcoal. This is my paramedic bag, this is my syringes and my needles. You can draw the vaccine, but I AM GIVING IT!" rofl. Shame, I said he can give me the next one :)

Painless injection into the arm by the shoulder. No reaction, no feeling iffy or anything.

On topic, I've had Hep A and B vaccines.

You need to have a STD screening first before they give it to you otherwise it could have a bad effect on you if you already have one of the two.

I'd love to have a complete screening done. Where do you go?
The last time I went (about 3 or 4 years ago), I just told my doctor and he drew blood and ticked a few boxes on the testing form.
Not sure if that was the right way, though. Shouldn't things like Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea get tested by swabbing the penis/throat?
Also, it was hellishly expensive. I think it cost about R5000 for all the tests!
