Hermanus riots

I don't follow twitter, but has anyone noticed any comments from EFF and Malema on this situation?

"The US gives us 300 billion rand worth of aid for the poor. There are conditions for that aid, including the rule of law and private property rights. President Trump is waiting for an excuse to withdraw that aid" - @AtholT

So, a quick summary from reliable sources.

There were a lot of incidents in Zwelihle last night. Gunshots and tear gas were used, many residents fled their homes and over 700 people are being accommodated at the Sandbaai hall and a couple of churches.

There is a massive effort underway to feed everyone from babies to pensioners and the community are overwhelmed with volunteers and donations of food and bedding are coming in.

The situation is still very tense and the residents are all talking about incomers instigating and perpetuating the unrest.

Is Zwelihle a township (in the SA sense) or a suburb?

I wish that he would.

Nope. But we can expect it?
We can definitely expect more of this. Those responsible are rewarded with free stuff. The message is clear burn something and then get free stuff.

A-hem...

Zwelihle community leader Masibulele Jimlongo says they hope to be allocated land after the MEC for Human Settlements arrives later today in Hermanus. Jimlongo says it’s a community matter and not a political matter. #Hermanus @AJGMolyneaux

This was tweeted by the DASO Western Cape chairperson yesterday,

The facist #EFF is leading a protest in Hermanus. Protestors burnt a Police Station, library and busses. The same essential services the community will be in need of. How Idi #Malema Amin is not in jail is beyond me.

Going by the Malema and co. on social media, they all have their priorities and attention now on #TrollipMustFall

So they're getting the land, cool.

They are under the impression that they may receive ‘gratis’ land. It would be a sad day to see the land rewarded to them. Since the ANC announced expropriation without compensation to be a thing and Malema ramping up the ante on spurring people on to grab land, this will be more reoccurring and giving land away under the circumstances will set a dangerous precedence which will have dire consequences. Everyone who believes they are owed land will want to stake now (on the soonest opportunity).

so where were these people living before the rioting, did they spawn overnight?

because they will put up shacks again on this new allocated land and it will look like its always been there.

like in houtbay all of a sardene there were all these extra people that needed a place to stay. where did they come from?

Does it even matter where they came from. The point is they're there and invasions of idle land has been happening for decades with shanty towns popping up on them.
