Heroic Dungeons...

Meh, leveling my shaman healer right now. Tank comes in and says its his first time. Yay. After 5 min I ask him to hold aggro, he tells me to focus on who he is shooting. I tell him Im a healer and then quit group and come back to mybb :D

Bwahaha. Thats classic :D

I love the Old School guys who mark mobs. My favourite kind. I Sheep the Moon. Star gets hexed/sapped and we nuke the skull. Literally fly through the dungeons. I did the Lost City in like 15 minutes on heroic :)

On some bosses I also kite the adds etc.
I always ask for tactics- cos I know alot of players are too scared? to ask. Ridiculous.

Blizzard said that they don't want heroics to be another aoe fest like LK was, but this is not the case.

Except for 2-3 pulls in some instances, you can aoe tank everything without having to wait for the healer to mana up afterwards - granted both needs some HC gear.
Ofcourse you can't just thunderclap, cleave and sit back and relax though...

Preferable group composition: 2 Ranged dps, 1 Melee.
Melee DPS takes a lot more damage than ranged which taps the healer dry way faster than if there weren't any. Once your healer is decently geared and using the proper mana efficient spells it's not a problem. (Druids spamming Rejuve like the old days will find themselves Oom very quickly)

Prot Warrior tank specific:

Mark the Caster mob (especially healer) with Skull.
Pull the caster with a Heroic (silencing) Throw and charge immediately.
If: DPS and the healer can keep it in their pants for 1 second, apply Rend then Thunderclap.
If not, then Thunderclap (sometimes a mob might have moved behind you, making shockwave fail)
Turn so you face all / most of them and shockwave, Concussion Blow (5 sec stun) the skull.
Cleave and apply 1x rend on any mob then Thunderclap again.
Disarm a Melee mob & Shieldblock [Keep it on CD ofcourse]
Hoofstomp if you're tauren [Most likely interrupting a mob cast, or save it until you see a cast]
Taunt the skull (most likely needed by this time)
Target a caster mob and interrupt
Demoshout
Keep Shockwave, Disarm, Conc Blow, TC all on CD.

If HP drops to 60% use a trinket, if HP drops to 45% use Enraged Regen
If you see you're taking a savage beating, Heroic Leap away, DPS can still keep on nuking - you can taunt from range.
Charge back in stunning & interrupting a mob when the Healer has managed to catch up.

On very large, hard pulls blow Shield Wall after your Shockwave stun wore off earlier. Don't save your CDs for a rainy day, use them - most of them will be ready for the next tough group.

Many mobs move fairly slowly and can be kited. Use it to reduce damage taken. Most DPS classes can slow mobs heavily, so after you've build some fair aggro simply leap away and wait for them to kill it - taunting and Heroic Throwing if they get close on threat. If they finally catch up to you and taunt is on CD, either have Vigilance on the top dps, so you can just keep on taunting or charge (stun) in and resume tanking as normal. This is ofcourse not needed often, but works well on the 2x Oaf pack in Deadmines that can really wallop a tank - so that only one is hitting you at a time.

Prio Mastery and Parry for your Prot Warrior.

Interrupts is key to damage reduction. Doing +30 interrupts as a tank in a HC is normal.
Especially your Melee DPS' #1 Prio is to interrupt, then DPS. There is not a single reason not to interrupt, infact it's a DPS buff for a DPS Warrior to Interrupt (5% dmg bonus for 30secs if talented)

Hope it helps someone.

Great post. Just 1 small mistake I'd like to point out. Vigilance doesn't go on the top dps, but instead on any melee dps, if no melee dps on a pet. They changed it sadly from what it was, and the person who has it on them, needs to get hit for the taunt cooldown reset to trigger, with the added bonus that 20% of that damage will boost your vengance as well.

As for AoE trash, I actually do do it a lot, mostly when I know I have dps'ers doing 13-15k dps each, thus I charge in, shockwave then shieldwall as the stun wear off. As for threat, I don't seem to have that problem on heroics, nor raids. Its only in normal dungeons.

I don't think the heroics in Cataclysm are any harder or easier than WotLK.

I think what is different is that the gear available from justice points is relatively weaker.

People where doing Lich king heroics with raid level gear. Once we have Cataclysm raid level gear, these heroics will be just as simple.

In the meantime, we need to use some skill to compensate for the gear. Not a bad thing at all.

+1.

i'm a 85 resto drood with 342 average GS ,96k mana (unbuffed) heroics are just beginning to get easier, gotta say having a UBER tank and knowing tacts really helps

PS. Stonecore is a B$%$^%&%$!!!!

I love Stonecore hc, cus none of the bosses are a dps race and if you die 99.9% of the time its your own fault:) Have finished the 2nd boss from 80%-0 with just myself tanking and hunter dps'n cus the rest died from either lava the stalagtites or crystal storm lol.

Did stonecore again last night, was sooo much fail, had my 1st wipe ever on the 1st boss there.

2nd boss me (tank) and healer finished alone, all 3 dps died. Atleast we did finish the run.

Stone Core was my second heroic. Zoned in, in the middel of the first boss fight. Only the tank alive. Only got off Hunters Mark and got one shotted by something. Party chat lights up by the 3 corpses (1 healer and 2 dps) telling me how much I fail for standing in something. So I asked them how they died.

This is after I had to que for 38min. Sometimes wow can really suck.

hmm, in that case it's not WoW that sucks but the people. Most cases really it is the people who suck and make the whole game unpleasant.

Well its the easiest boss, all that needs to happen is, those pink little crystals that spawn on the ground needs to get insta aoe'd the moment they are spawned and you won't have any problems.

Anyways, I shouldn't complain, I did a SFK last night in 45 minutes, which is really fast for a HC nowadays.

1 Prot tank (me)
1 Arms war
1 fury war
1 mage
1 paladin healer

We literally ran in and AoE'd the whole place and did every single boss just fine. When I joined the run, they wiped on the 1st boss, I just asked who interrupts what, and then charged in. That was a really solid good group, which make me wonder how they could ever wipe on the 1st boss in there, then change tank and finish the place in 45 minutes.

Stranger things have happened but I think you need solid DPS, solid Tank and a solid healer to enjoy heroics at this moment. The only epics I have are the reputation based ones, rest is ilvl 346 and 2x 333 items.

Rofl, you had 4 interrupts thats why :) Try it with a Mage, 2x SP, Prot pally and Shammy healer trying to keep the group up along with interrupting

I've never been past the first boss in HC Stonecore... once I stopped being the one getting oneshotted, either the tank or the healer ends up dead. If not from the underground punt, then because the AOE is so focused on the boss they don't bother with the crystals.

Agree. First Heroic I did was with a great group of people (random). If we wiped we would discuss in group what went wrong, who could do what differently and we would continue. First time in a long while that I actually looked at the combat log. Maybe we spent like 20min more on the run, but its the most fun I've had in a dungeon in long time.

I had 1 of those sort of runs through Throne of Tides after about 14 terribad groups... it was an awesome friendly group... that changed my view on pugs

After last night I am currently 2-1 for good groups. Grim Batol was a pleasure. Great bombing run making the trash a breaze. Wiped once on 2nd & third boss, but fixed the mistakes.

We struggled a bit on last boss with the 2 adds that spawn. On second try we had him down to 5%. Just reorganised the way we killed the adds and third time was a charm. Probably to early to spot a pattern, but if I can get a good group every other run I would be a happy chappy.

I wish they would give mages the ability to tank :p Then I won't need to worry about keeping the tanks in randoms happy so that they (who think they do the world a huge favour) won't leave the group...

resto druid on 350 ilevel now, once you get used to the healing style it's very easy :) not really doing heroics anymore since there's no real point (other than the daily)

raiding fulltime now

edit: plus, resto is getting quite a lot of buffs in 4.0.6

Well I did another stonecore hc (yes still farming for my trinket *cry*), and had 1 good dps, good healer, and the 2x melee dps died the whole time, but its enough to get the run done with 0 wipes :)

Generally I seem to still get more than enough good groups that the odd bad one doesnt bother me too much. Did SFK again, fairly easy it seems. Love it when runs go fast, especially if I decided to do it as dps and go ape in pvp spec with arms and doing 14-20k dps, makes the run a whole lot faster.

Ye awesome, cant wait for those, we a bit behind the other healers in allot of situations, 355 myself, need 4 shiz for Cata Epic

I'm far behind when it comes to gear. I can't stand waiting for a random group for 45+ minutes and when you eventually when I get a group the tank or healer leaves on first wipe...

I blame all this on WotLK though...worst expansion ever.
