Higher electricity prices?

First we are told that unless we reduce our consumption then we will be penalized with higher tarrifs. Now that we have reduced our consumption that still isn't good enough because they are still threatening to increase the f*****g tarrifs because they aren't making enough profit. The mentality of some people simply amazes me.

LOL, they ask us to use less, now they are complaining that they've sold less! So Dumb!

In terms of the current financial year, electricity sales are down 3.18% compared to the previous year.

I thought Eskom told us that we had to cut our usage by 10% or so or else we would face fines. Now when we reduce country-wide consumption by 3.8% all of a sudden they aren't selling enough electricity and now we need to pay more?!?

Huh?!

EDIT: Also Eskom and the municipalities have always had a policy stating that the houses that use less electricity will pay less than those that use more electricity per unit consumed, despite the fact that the more electricity you consume the cheaper it becomes to supply your home with each individual unit. How then can they say that because we don't use enough the prices need to escalate?? Don't those two ideas contradict one another just a little??

If goverment does not give them that 300 plus billion, just how do people expect Eskom to finance the build project? Especially if the cost of debt these days is so high?

Personally, I would rather pay more right now, than have a parastatal that is over indebted in the future.

this is so retarded... <sigh> im so sick and tired of bending over and taking one for everyone that screws up! we as consumers need to do something about this kind of crap.

This is all an excuse to raise tariffs again. Please, 3.8% less usage is 3.8% less money. But will the tarrifs increase by only 3.8%? NO!

hmmm... wasnt the electricity off for like 3.8% of last year while they had to "load shed' because of broken / old equipment? Seems unfair lol...

Honestly I think this can be expected from people that didnt realise 10 years ago that if they keep on selling our own elictricity to other countries that we would exhaust our own supplies later.

In short they are a bunch of morons that has the foresight of a freakin goldfish.

"oooh haibo, we are out of of powa, everyboedy stop using powa!"
"eish, now we dont have monee coz I bought a new house and we sold less electricity"

How did Eskom do it in the past - by being one of the best utilities in the world and being credible thereby getting international funding. In 14 years they f**ked it up both ways (capacity and credibility) and now they run to the government. But see the history - SAA was exactly the same and after being bailed out year after year they still can't do it right.
The only benefit from paying more NOW is that the ANC cronies managing Eskom will get big fat bonuses this year and have enough time to think up another excuse for non-performance next year. Every where else in the world lower demand = low prices but that is rocket science for our current government and we know that there is a skills shortage!:rolleyes:

we use too much, they are not happy, they hike prices and try to punish us

we use too little, they are not happy, they hike prices and try to punish us

When will consumers stand up and just tell them to F-U-C-K off, no **'s for me, I am too angry to even do that.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Appoint people that know what they are doing is a good start. The comrades have fugged up and are continuing to fug up.

Pls reduce power consumtion by 10%,Eskom does not have enough power to supply you...those who fail to reduce their power consumption will be faced with hefty fines...Oh no if you use less electricity Eskom gets less money and you are going to pay more because you use less electrity...and there is nothing you can do about this...you either pay more or get a fine...
You have to read again to undestand this...and sorry if you feel dizzy after reading...

I say we all phone and email nersa and give them hell for this stupidity !!! Maybe if they stop answering their phones and emails, then they will miss the call/email from eskom to demand the increase :)

haha, what a great plan!! you should try take over the world some day... pardon the pun :D

What a load of total crap, many have already stated the problem with this, them telling us to lower consumption and then wanting to raise prices because consumption was lowered, though I have to add if people are buying less for whatever reason though the article points at the economic problem how is raising the prices going to solve this. If the cost is already restrictive increasing the cost will only make things worse.

This in unbelievable, seriously, not only at how these people rationalise this but also how so many accept it. It seems no matter what happens it's always a reason to increase prices.
