Hisense 55T36 Owners Thread

He called back at 15:00, he wants a copy of the receipt and is sending a tech out on Thursday or Friday.... I will update again after the tech comes.

It would be interesting to see (and hear from you) what the tech does - can't wait.

Tech should be here any minute....

On the plus side, watched Avatar in 3D last night, very very cool, but you need a big lounge, sitting in front of the tv about 6m away , there are a few anomalies, ie, shiney bits that dont look quite right, when standing outside, +/- 12m away (smokers must smoke) the pic is phenomenal, pop outs where great and the depth was awesome and clear. Couches will be moving back :)

That doesn't sound right.

I can sit 1.6m away from my 46" (cinema style field of view) and the picture off 1080i DSTV HD and 1080p Bluray looks accurate and imperfection free.

Right, tech came, checked, sighed, wrote a credit note and left... He is going to go through their stock and see if they all have the same problem, if he finds one that doesnt then thats coming to me.

I dont want credit tho, im not going to be able to get another 55" FHD LED PAssive 3D tv for R13000 + a free 32" HD Ready LCD...

Oops missed that, but if I remember, still yes. Big difference is my TV is active 3D, which isn't influenced by viewing distance in the same way as passive.

Also not sure on the HiSense, but my Samsung has independent settings for 3D mode, which I've obviously tuned quite different from 2D (e.g. compensate for the dimming introduced by active 3D).

Wonder how many other complaints they've received. Probably very few because most people don't visit tech forums...

2 techs also came today - agreed that there is a problem. They said they would consult with their head office...I said I just want it improved, happy to let them decide how.

Roman, not sure about your active/passive comment re viewing distance...care to elaborate?

The two systems use very different techniques to achieve 3D.

Active shows the left/right images in rapid succession with the glasses blocking off the appropriate eyes's vision at the appropriate instant. With this method there is no real difference in visual quality based on distance from the screen as each eye alternately sees the enitire screen (all lines).

Passive show the left/right images simultaneously to both eyes on a continuous basis. It does this by using half the lines for each eye e.g. odd=left, even=right. At distance the missing information (lines) is not apparent and the picture blends into a seamless image, however if you get too close your eyes start percieving the gaps in visual info.

Actually distance is up to the individual viewer and make/model of TV. I had a chance to check out the latest 2012 LG models (LM6710) and for me I still need to be further than 2m back (on a 47") for the illusion of a seamless image to work.

Err...Roman I cant agree with you on that. On a 55" the lines are spaced at .65mm. Even at 2m (ie very close), I'd be surprised that that would influence your perception of 3D. You need to get quite close to see the the interlacing..

However, the 3D source material could have a huge bearing on the experience, be it content or format/resolution. I also watched some 1080p top-bottom formatted material via PS3 and my openelec media hub, and the hub had a better overall picture. Same source file! Still not sure why the PS3 didn't work quite as well...

Well as I mentioned visual perception will vary, but I can definately pick it up under say 2.5m (maybe cause I know what to look for).

Possibly you need to spend some time watching/getting accustomed to active 3D, you'll then be able to pick up the differences between the two.

Most likey down to differences in settings. Have you meticulously checked all of them on the TV's different input sources and each of the source devices e.g. PS3 & PC/XBMC.

Personally I have no issues with the 2D or 3D PQ from my PS3 (vs. embedded Samsung DLNA & Plex clients that I also use).

Could have been the content, it was Half SBS through XBMC, ive read that XBMC wont handle full SBS.

Top-bottom is supposed to be best for passive, I hear. Makes sense given that its a close match...

I watched Monsters vs Aliens on 3D bluray in house and home on a JVC 55" 3D LED tv, i was very impressed, there is a scene in the beginning where a astrologer is playing with one of those paddle ball things and he hits the ball towards you a couple times, on the JVC the 3D pop out was very good. I have downloaded the same movie, 1080p full SBS, to test on my TV (I dont have a 3D bluray player) and the pop out is no where near as good.

Do you think this is because its an MKV file playing through a media player or is the 3D on my Hisense just not as good as the JVC? Both are passive tv's.

Hey Sub

What has happened re the backlight bleed? The Hisense guys are collecting mine today, to see if they can sort out the problem at their office. Promised to have it back Thursday. Also offered a credit, and am considering the xt710 upgrade. But only if it's substantially better, and I'm dubious as its also the same tech.

Re 3d post above, I'd imagine it's to do with the source material and path, more than the tv itself. If they are both passive, the only issue that can surely affect the 3d experience is crosstalk???

Hi iGeorge

When the hisense tech came he had one look and offered me a credit, didnt even want to try and repair it. I have just gotten off the phone with hificorp, they are going to contact hisense and find out about the credit and then probably send me another tv.

Did you go for the same deal with the free 32" LCD? What are the prices on your receipt? My receipt says R10500 for the 55" and R2499 for the 32", I kinda think this is a rip off as I wouldnt have paid R2499 for the 32" had I had an option. As far as Im concerned the deal was that if I buy the 55" for R12999 I would get the 32" for free.

Should add I grabbed 2 top-bottom 3D files, Avatar(20GB) and Monster in Paris (4GB). Both look really great. I play mine on a HP microserver running openelec, via HDMI extenders through my AVR to the T36. Manually set to 3D - TB. I must say, the remote could do with a dedicated 3D button!!!
