Holiday destination recommendations

If budget is not an issue, Japan! Absolutely epic country. Super safe, efficient, crazy, awesome.

It has everything you want: World class city, World class public transport, epic nature and scenery, incredible history and culture, abundant information available to make your travels easier, bullet trains!, delicious food.

Easily one of my top countries, it just that good! you'll need a visa but its the Japanese, they so efficient at this stuff.

Will second this, best country I've been to so far, especially if you want to experience a totally different culture.

Requires visa though...

After going through all the recommendations, it seems like the best places are ones that require a visa. Might take that route.

Thanks for all of your help. Now I'll just dedicate the follow months to planning my first trip out of the country and researching how to get my visa as easily as possible.
 
I would also recommended Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore or the Philippians. Heading to HK this December so will give an update early next year.

Spain and Italy is also high on my list but it really depends on what you are looking for on a Holiday.

Singapore is kak expensive. Just keep that in mind. Makes Euro destinations seem like a bargain...
 
Agreed but if you don't have a budget it is a great stop over for any of the South-East Asian countries.

Speaking of Italy, it has always been one of those places I've had an interest for the longest time. The culture, food, architecture and rich history is hard to ignore.
 
To those that have been Italy/Spain/France, what was your budget like? Flight, accommodation and spending money(food/tours/transportation)included?

Or what's the ball park amount one would need for a 7 night stay at one of those countries for a budget trip.

Around R30k, then you are really comfortable. Can be done with 20-25k with good planning and cheap accommodation but when you are there it is nice to have additional money for eating out, tours etc. France will be the most expensive especially Southern France. Would recommend Northern Italy as there are great flight specials or Spain.

Funny enough, with amateur travel skills, that's around the same amount I got after putting together a rough trip to Rome.

You cant go wrong with HK its absolutely amazing, beautiful and you will understand what 1st world means. Really hope the protests are done by then.

Just a heads a the food is insanely expensive that all not street food

Coffee >R100 a cup
Burger >R300 (there were R5000 burgers on the menu)

Just be prepared, it is absolutely amazing though. You must do:

Try get skip the line tickets.

Many of the attractions are free just get ready for some very busy places. Get comfy walking shoes we took the MTR everywhere (get tourist pass tickets) and still walked 10-20km a day.

France return ticket: R8-14K dep on airline and time of year
Accommodation: airbnb is a good option typically R1-R1.5 a night depending on your budget you can obviously go cheaper.
Café/restaurant: Beer 5 Euro typically, wine 6 euro meals start at around 10/12 euro. Street food/bakeries are cheaper
Attractions are typically 10-20Euro a place.
VISA: R1.5K
Spending money: depends what you want to spend it on :p I just picked up a whiskey on the way in from duty free didn't waste money on random stuff there.

One thing you seriously need to consider is even Paris might be your first choice I would recommend Lyon or split between paris and lyon.

You will have a truly French experience without loads of tourists.
We were in Toulouse, Nimes, Strasbourg, Lyon and Paris

My 2c Use public transport where available. Driving in Paris is crazy. We went through the Champs-Élysées and past the Arc de triomphe at 7 on a Friday night in the rain. It was the scariest ride of my life. Everybody just drives with no consideration for other people. Eventually I just closed...

Its not cheap at all so if on a budget not recommended.

Turkey and Vietnam are on my to see soon list :)
