I haven't got that far yet so for me just knowing Open or Closed would be good..... :)

It is the basic yes.
I did take it apart and looked like really shoddy soldering inside. But didn't think to test with the volt meter while on. I dropped it off at a takealot drop off point this morning. We'll try again...
 
Ideas on providing open/close state for the garage?
Haven’t used OpenHab or anything else and would prefer not to lose EWeLink for the rest of the Sonoffs. So this is just for the one usecase.

Current thinking is some sensor that can send a IFTTT notification if the garage is open.

Magnetic switch like alarm uses.

Whether that can plug into Ewelink as is I don’t know.

IFTT doesn't have state, which is sucky. So you'll get a notification when it opens, but you would probably need another sensor on the other side to notify you when it closes again.

iTeadstudios do make the Sonoff Bridge and wireless door sensors, but I have no idea whether you can link those to IFTT. I also know their sensors only report one event - when they open. If the sensor closes again it doesn't send trigger. Hence why you may need two.
 
Got my Xiaomi Motion sensors and door sensors.
Also got my Zigbee routers.
Now just waiting on the Zigbee sniffer and debugger cable which should arrive next week.
Then as soon as i get the Shelly units i'll put everything together and hopefully be a big step towards a smart home.
Not more need for light switches .... hopefully :)

You're going zigbee2mqtt?
