Home Connecta Flexi

Hi there

Were you able to visit the store? Did they sort out the issue?

^SM

Just came back from the store.

2 hours of rying to figure out what went wrong and CMS support unable to provide answers they tried a sim swap. Once the sim swap is done we will see if it works.

Some system glitch allocated me 2 x numbers to the same simcard serial number. The 1st number has the data the second sim is a recycled number that got activated on top of the existing number.

Didn't realize but its better than being in a contract with no connectivity...I am guessing since MTN says it's usually 90 days turn around time to fix the network might as well cancel and use their 90 days on something that works.

Got the router from tygervalley, will test and see how it goes
Let us know how well the ZTE router compares with the Huawei models. It appears to be using a ZTE ZX97520V3 processor and not a Qualcomm type which are used in some of their other routers like the MF286. The MF927U does support some of the TDD bands (38 or 40?, 41) unlike the Bolt/Huawei E5573Cs-322 from Geewiz.

So no ZTE for me. Router had software the consultant said and could not get it to work. So they gave me this Huawei to use for now. They said they will fix it in the coming week then I can exchange it.

So I got the ZTE from Cellc.

Not network locked if anyone was wondering. Testing it a bit with an MTN sim in to see how the performance is. :)

The pity is I can't force bands. It supports a bunch of LTE bands including Band 41 which MTN is using as temp spectrum on a tower close by but I can't seem to get it to lock to that band.

Also got the ZTE router from Cell C with the 5+5GB Home Connecta Flexi Prepaid for R449.oo today.

PLEASE do let us know if you do figure out a way to force / lock the LTE bands.

Thank you

I'm wondering what prices will change to after that. I need a new internet solution come September and was hoping to use this.

I reckon these prices will stay with the 24 months contract.

Off topic. Anybody tried keeping a Mifi plugged in permanently? End result would be a botched battery and fire?

I would recommend against using it as a long term solution at home. As you rightly point out, the batteries don't last and becomes a fire risk if it overheats or swells up.

A 'fixed' lte router (e.g. Huawei B315, B525 etc) would give you greater wifi range and stability. It is also designed to be switched on 24/7. If your budget is tight, consider buying a second hand router. In my view routers are low risk 2nd hand item given that there are no moving parts.

So activated this today and it's performing like my old sim. Weird they state it's fixed LTE but you can use it anywhere there's LTE. I guess there's no way for the network to differentiate while fixed LTE is locked to a tower. Funny that they don't know their own product and have not given consistent answers on this.

Only issue I have is there's no 3G fallback. It registers on the network as well as on Vodacom but it doesn't connect. That will be bad for loadshedding as Cell C's LTE doesn't work during loadshedding. But I can't really use anything then so my old sim would have to suffice.

As for the promo, so was the 100GB and 200GB. And the 50GB+150GB before that ran for years. The 50GB+50GB was only supposed to be till Black Friday and it's still running. They seem to have a habit of extending these things or replace them with something better.

Due to weakness of constitution (and finances) bought another bundle. Tried the Spin-and-Win game. "Won" 1024MB. Valid for one day... ... ... Could not even reach 50MB. Yeah lucky me!

Anyone else having connection issues this morning? Midrand. I tried the vodafone R216 and R219h router and both not working. Was working Friday still, when I left work.

So had load shedding between 20h- a bit after 22h now. Tested the CellC data again during this period - like previously ( one of my previous posts ) the speed test showed next to nothing, as well as browsing efforts, BUT somehow DstvNow played flawlessly on my phone, together with apps like Netwerk24 and Mybroadband just working. So it seems Apps work and browsing goes to #*@* for me at least on this. Don't know why, but it did tonight.

From tomorrow I will know for sure how this product works out for me, since fibre is cancelled and will start using the R899 1TB when the fibre actually stops - still need to get a router though and load the 1TB. Uhm.

Managed to source a Huawei B315 router from Cash Crusaders today.

Happy with the performance this afternoon and tonight so far - only CAT 4 like my phone but it is adequate. Would have loved to see what something like the Huawei B535 might do. Plugged it in next to where the Vumatel Fibre ONT is situated. Screenshot_2021-06-01-18-38-34-024_com.android.chrome.jpg
