Home Connecta Flexi

Off topic. Anybody tried keeping a Mifi plugged in permanently? End result would be a botched battery and fire?
Hi,
At the moment I have the charger attached to a timer. Running for about 4 hours 3X a day. Might change the period. Watching how low the battery gets just before the timer charges it again.
Will post here, although probably different for each household depending internet usage.
Hans

This could be the problem :

Answer from @Jake45 - "I bought and Rica'd an All-In-One SIM for R4 from Checkers which I converted to the Home Connecta Flexi tariff and loaded the 5+5GB bundle. I recently loaded the R199 50+50GB bundle and the new bundle has been working since the 2nd June. I think the customers who are using the SIM cards bought directly from Cell C appear to be having these type of disconnection problems."

Did you perhaps buy your SIM directly from Cell C ?

I'm on my 3rd sim card. There's something on Cell C's side surely. My first 2 sims went kaput the in identical fashion: first day after midnight.

That's what I did. my 3rd sim is still working so here's hoping.

My area gets 100+Mbps on MTN but on Cell C I get the above.

I do somewhat better on Cell C, but not by too much, though it's usable for me ; in fact, my downloads seem (from a sensory perception point-of-view) to be almost as fast on Cell C as they are on Telkom, and I also don't sense pings are any slower when loading web pages.

Ping 45ms
Jitter 2ms
Download 7.9Mbps
Upload 1.7Mbps

Mweb
Johannesburg
Cell C
105.0.1.255

Ping 61ms
Jitter 4ms
Download 8.6Mbps
Upload 1.7Mbps

Mweb
Cape Town
Cell C
105.0.1.255

Don't know why the IP address is the same for JHB & CPT - is that possible ?
I clearly did a 2nd test choosing the CPT server.

My Telkom speeds can be similar to yours, but usually somewhere between 50 - 100+ Mbps.
MTN I used to get about 45 / 45 Mbps, but that went away suddenly & had regular cut-outs from their network, daily (via Afrihost, last year).

I'm taking a bit of a chance from the 1st July by getting the 200 GB (100 + 100) Cell C package for R389 (60 days), while still available - might be gone after the beginning of September ?
Had previously thought to get a more balances mix of Telkom & a lower package of Cell C, but this Cell C pricing / data is too good to pass up.

Will keep 10 + 10 GB Telkom going through Axxess, in case Cell C conks out at times, because I double-checked in my router the other day that Cell C only has 4G / Auto (one and the same, I'm sure) available so if that goes, there's no way to use 3G as a backup, unlike Telkom which reverts back to 3G at times (primarily when power outages occur).

It seems to be all over the place but not complaining at the price.

This is my biggest issue. Data transfer is also not available on this package so can't use another sim without paying extra.

You can transfer up to 1GB to another SIM from the Home Connecta Flexi. If you recharge with amounts of R50 onto an All-In-One SIM card you can accumulate 4~8GB of additional data which only lasts 7 days but I normally use all of it before it expires or you can spread the recharges throughout the month to allow usage over the entire period.

Doesn't work on the Home Connecta plan.

There's no such option. I know where it is for my other sim but it's not there for the Home Connecta Flexi plan.

I transferred 1GB from my HCF to my AIO SIM a few weeks ago using the android app.

Mine also stopped working on Friday. I have Cell C signal but no 4G. I still have 7gb left according to the app. I tried a different phone as well. Guess I'll need to get a new sim but I still have 7gb left.

If you have data left it wasn't deactivated and a new sim won't make any difference. During load shedding I had many issues with this even at times there wasn't load shedding. When you activate it it locks to one tower. Pray this is the one with the strongest signal and it's the only one on the same level so it doesn't switch. Despite the tower further away having 0-1 bar signal on my old sim it simply refused to allow data to pass through. When the 2-3 bar tower returned it worked again. So if your usual tower goes then so does your service.

The way this was implemented leaves a lot to be desired and they should go back to the drawing board. Nowhere was it said to be fixed LTE.

On a phone, select only 4G ( preferred network type - prefer LTE ) at network settings and see what happens?

Thanks. I've tried that as well, but if it's locking to a tower, or has limited switches between towers, that might be the issue.
