Hi there.

I want to create a network in our house. The router is in my study.

I had a look at this:
TL-WPA4220

The thing that I like is that it makes use of the house's electrical wiring and on the "other" extender I can connect two wired things, such as our DStv. It also has WiFi capabilities.

What is your take on this or can you recommend something else? I can do wired but then I will need to get into the roof and put the cables in trunking to make it neat.

Thank you.

would you consider running cable from a switch connected to your modem, i know using wifi extenders cuts throughput in half if you get poor wifi in some rooms maybe to that something that creates a mesh network

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know I will loose speed on wifi but I was hoping to not use cables. I don't like to have trunking in our family room.

Ultimately Ethernet cable will always be better.

So the question is do you want the short term inconvenience of laying the cabling in the roof for the long term convenience of never having an issue.

OR

Do you want to take the middle ground and take the fastest install route with a mediocre but functional experience overall.

I have wired my entire backbone in the household with all client devices being wireless if that answers your question.

Nothing works better than wired connection.

Run 2/3 ubiquiti unifi AC lites in the ceiling to start from your router.

Then over time get rid of router and add a USG, 8 port switch and cloud key.

The bit of effort will be worth it.

if really not keen on wiring maybe a mesh networking like google wifi might suit you to cloud your house with coverage
