I've created this thread as I'm interested in hearing how the Honda S2000 has been for those that own one (xRapidx?).
Has it been everything you were hoping?
How manageable is the driving especially when pushed? I've read there are big handling differences between pre 2004 facelift and today's version. Some people even say it's dangerous, but I'd rather get a opinion from the owner(s).

Also if you would buy one again, what advice would you give on purchasing an older model?

I'm no expert, but its one of the best cars I've ever driven - and I will try keep one for as long as I can.

From my understanding the S2000 AP1 (2000-2003) has a weak diff, which can be problamatic, but so far I've had no bad luck with mine.

When I went shopping for one, mid last year, I was specifically looking for an AP1 because of the 9500rpm, I think the AP2 is 8500rpm, and the now 2009 is 8000rpm.

I am considering selling mine and getting an AP2 purely to fit a supercharger, taking the 177kw to over 300kw... I didn't like getting dropped by an RS4 :p

Its a great car... the the back on the AP1 does slide out quite easily, especially around the traffic circles in Century City when its wet. I actually want to go on an advanced driving course with the car, just to push it to its limit so I can understand at which point the back will slide out, it does catch me off guard sometimes, and I have accidently done a few 180's in the car when turning to sharp... but mostly only in wet conditions.

If you don't have kids, and have access to a 'practical' car, then I'd say get one :)

I have a feeling you're going to turn this into a TK thread.;)

Nah - there's only so much that can be said without actually driving it :D

Everyone I take for a drive loves the sound, but thats mainly due to the intake upgrade :p

Did Honda reduce the rev limit due to engine issues? I can't find a reason why? But I'm pleased to hear the car has been behaving for you.

I'll give you a friendly 'beep' if I see you round century city, I'll hope for a wheel spin in return!

Not sure why it was reduced, doubt it was engine issues, these engines are known to be bullet proof., doubt it was engine issues, these engines are known to be bullet proof.

Difficult to do a wheel spin, low torque :P You need to launch above 6500rpm to get the slightest wheel spin ... although its easy to get a bit of wheel spin from 1st to 2nd.

andytl5 - I assume you're considering one?

I love Honda and I'm considering an S2000 but I didn't know AP1 or AP2, I'd rather be safe than sorry considering I've had no sports car training, but I'm not a teenager either anymore, so I'll be careful.

I'm finding the ones down in Cape town are overr priced. I would not expect to pay more than R200k for a 2004 with 60-80,000k on the clock. Does that sound reasonable?

There are some that go into that range, there's currently a 2005 for 198k on autotrader.

sorry more questions, how is the air in the hair, is it really windy, or does the rear glass deflector do a good job? I should go test one, less questions that way! my real issues is AP1 or AP2, I doubt I could even tell the difference

Don't think AP1 comes with the deflector, I had to buy mine, R3k :(

It does work quite well, I actually find there's a lot less wind noise with the roof down. The cabin is pretty well protected, I also bought a larger screen for the deflector online. (which reminds me, I need new one, a pigeon dove into the car and broke it in half, so its now back to standard size).

BTW. I'm 6'2", its the only sports convertable I fitted comfortably in, and I've done Jhb. to Cpt. in one sitting.

lol, damn pigeon. The height thing was my other question, I'm just as tall! :D Anyway that's all I have for you. I do like the rarity of this car, I've not seen one in months. Happy driving:D.

Once you have one, you see them a lot - I see one or two per week. AP1's are rare though, I've never seen another one. There have been one or two on Autotrader every now and and then.

There's a white AP2 in the area, thats my new favourite colour.

Here's where I got my fullsize aeroscreen : http://www.ricks2k.com/products/aero.php

my 2 cents :

would you guys not think that a 350 z is a better car ?
why yes and why no ?
im a fan of turbo charged engines , love the torque .

Nah, haven't test drove one, but going on the Top Gear review - they said it didn't make a good sports convertible, and they should've stuck to what they had.
