Horible experience with KIA!!!!

One more reason why I'm not looking forward to replacing my car...so much potential for stuff going sideways & the services range from simple rip-offs to down-right damage of property.

It seems to be the same everywhere...I encountered a McCarthy garage that was happy to replace my car's cambelt but somehow never got around to setting up the timing correctly. And then like OP they lied to me - told me they test drove it after...the hell you did...badly off timing isn't something a noob can overlook let alone a mechanic. Didn't kill the engine luckily...

I know Renault has a bad record but one thing I noticed was when I took my car for service was a board with testaments on good service or some mechanic going the extra mile or even referrals' from other branches. It may pay you when thinking of buying spend some time in the service centre and listen, to other peoples tales or comments. Could pay dividend's in the long run also on the Internet most Car Models have blogs, their you will get the real stories or praises on your particular car you may want to purchase. Little research can go along way often even a google search on a particular garage can show customer disputes with the mentioned garage. Also think you need to be hard-assed when given the run around, we are to polite with people in general.

Car problems with a Garage you should be asking.
What is your plan of action.
Have you got the spares.
Anything like this happened before and who did the repair.
How long will it take.
Timeline if repairs are not done on time I want a garage car.

In saying all that I had no problems with my Mechanics or service people we had a mutual understanding respect for one another

We recently bought two "new" vehicles and luckily I had read beforehand about similar "service levels" from Kia from others posted on another forum which made me decide against even considering them. Going through this thread it seems those concerns were indeed well founded. Will be sure to share this with any other potential buyers.

The question is what do you buy then? Honda maybe? They all seem to have their horror stories.

Absolutely but we went with Suzuki which for the most part is what we wanted as well as being quite reliable.

Bad service is a very good reason not to buy a certain car. This kind of service seems to be common with the Koreans. You recommended the Rio in another thread, without mentioning your issues with the dealers... Why?

You can't tell me that you won't have a problem with any other brand? I know of one guy who had a rough time with Audi. I have had trouble with Nissan in the past, and Daihatsu. People on here have had trouble with Ford and VW dealerships - and that's just the threads that I've come across.

I'd rather get a good car with the possibility of getting bad service than get an inferior car with the possibility of good service.

Bear in mind that my view of "bad service" is an inability to fix the problem I went there with. The one particular dealer I'm having trouble with does everything else right (IE normal services, warranty claims going through with no hassle and so on.).

It's an awesome car, and I stand by that, so I would recommend it again.

is the rattle in front of the dashboard? where the windscreen meets the dash?

Front left, near the passenger side. Since they've done work on it a slight rattle has developed at low speeds that seems to come from the centre of the dash. Otherwise the rattle is in full force going at 100kph+. It's more like a buzzing rattle than a knocking though.

I've been told that once they(any mechanic) opens a dash you will get a few minor rattles, the car will never be quite the same.

No reciprocal courtesy for you then Brendan Braaf. You rude and unhelpful fellow and you speling and gramer is abysmal.

Sorry for the long text, I tried to make it easier to read.

Where to start!

1st incident.

My Rio developed a rattle in the dashboard wich was a very common problem on the kia rio,a TSB was issued from kia south korea on how to fix the problem.I booked my vehicle in and the problem was fixed.

2nd incident.

A rattle devolped in the handbrake lever, i booked my vehicle in and the advice was to replace the lever.the lever was ordered under warranty, after waiting more than a month i contacted kia boksburg to know if the lever was there, kia had no knowledge of a lever being ordered, turns out they forgot to order the lever.I went back to kia boksburg to re-do the warranty process.waited for another month without a call,I called and i was informed they forgot to take fotos of the lever and i must come back! I went back and they took the foto's,waited another month without a call,i called and was informed the part arrived two weeks ago.

3rd incident.

my rio developed a rattle in the steering column, booked my vehicle in about 5 times trying to rectify the rattle, after the 6th time a new column was ordered under warranty, waited more than a month without a call,i called and was informed they have no knowledge of a warranty claim, went back and did the warranty process again, waited more than a month without a call,i called and was told once again the part arrived two weeks ago.

I Booked my vehicle in for the replacement column, i fetched my vehicle two days later and to my horror my steering column made a strange noise with a vibration and very "lightness" when driving less than 10 km/ph, my indicators did not want to engage and the column basically fell on my lap.

Took the vehicle back and kia boksburg "contacted" a specialist technician from head office to have a look at my vehicle. Turns out they never did so and i emailed the specialist myself.

I was informed i had to take my vehicle to kia edenvale, they advice to replace the column again. The column was replaced again with the same noise and vibration with the "lightness" of the steering feel. I booked my vehicle in 6 times to rectify this.what was the problem? Calibration of the steering column!! My column is used on various kia's and hyundai's with different computer boxes and setting, as this is a eps(electronic steering system) so kia Boksburg, kia Edenvale nor did the main specialist from kia head office knew they have to recalibrate the steering column.. Drove home and noticed that there was a ticking noise in the column when i turn right I left for durban the next day, a lot of fog on they road, switched my Hazards on, not working!! This was due to kia forgetting to plug the Hazards back in.I came back 2 days later, went to kia edenvale furious regarding the clicking noise and the hazards not working(without making a booking) I received absolutely no sympathy from kia edenvale service advisor.
I was told to book my vehicle in after a month because they were very busy, this was in december last year.

I booked my vehicle in again in february, march and april about 7 times.
In these times the clock spring was replaced and indicator stolk to cure the clicking noise in the column when turning right.

I phoned head office and spoke to a lady named Fiona, they order an investigation into this matter.
I got an email 5 days later informing me,according to the investigation the senior technician at head office could not here the "imaginery sound", and i was reffered to the vehicle ombudsman.
It is Very strange since the senior technician at head office does not even know about the noise that was created by him, he never even heard the noise.

I Drove to head office in edenvale, i demanded to speak to the customer relation officer.he heard the noise and acknowledged it.

I asked him how the investigation was conducted and told him there was never an investigation..received a bunch of excuses.

I was told they will phone me to book my vehicle in this early this week (Monday or Tuesday) as one of the technicians know what the problem might be and that they will arrange a loan vehicle.

So far i have not receiveid any phone calls or emails from the customer relations department.

It is shocking!!! The service that i have received thus far from these guys.

I already tried to get the contact details of someone senior at kia head office.but this information was constantly denied to me.
Apart from their horrible service kia scratched my plastics in my car without taking any liability for it.

this has been going on for the last year and a half!

Any advice on what to do next will be appreciated.

Wife's Kia Cerato went in for a service yesterday. Front headlight bulb needed to be replaced. Was quoted almost R700. Midas R65

This was my reply to brendan

"I would like a copy of my vehicle's full history to be sent to me if at all possible.

As well as a full explanation as to how the so called "investigation" or "case" that was lodged a few weeks ago was carried out.

The reason being:
1) Marnus did not know about the clicking noise in my steering, he was never made aware of this. He only knew about the rattle of which was fixed. Only Ryno from kia edenvale knew of this problem.according to fiona Marnus could not hear the noise or the noise was non-existent

2)I strongly believe my right to be treated fairly and honestly by your company was violated by the fact that i was reffered to the motor industry ombudsman when the vehicle is in fact under warranty(this being a warranty matter) and the fact that my case was handled with neglect(refer to point 1)

3) After complaining for a year and a half i am still being treated with the same kind of attitude, Lack of any respect or care.

4)I have made the effort time and time again to book my vehicle in to fix the mess that your technicians created without the same effort shown from kia's side.

The least your company could do is to provide me with transport for two days while my vehicle is booked in to fix KIA's Mess"

Send him a link to this thread, complain on Facebook and Hellopeter. Complain everywhere you can.

Companies only do something when their reputation is at stake.

This is disturbing. I was considering a new KIA Picanto. Any comments from happy KIA owners ?

Yes. My 2010 Cerato 2.0 SX is just about to roll over the 100,000km mark.
It hasn't given me any trouble except for a dead battery.
I'm happy with the service at Kia Centurion. I also took it to Kia Fourways for an ECU upgrade and they were very helpful.
I plan to keep this vehcile until at least 250,000km.

If you find a bad dealership pick another.
They're like restaurant franchises - some are just better managed than others.
I had the same issue with Mazda/Ford stealerships.

You can insert nearly any stealerships name in there. They're all a flipping rip off.
Like Mazda/Ford wanting to charge me R3000 for a door solenoid (without labour) or R7000 to replace an Uno distributor or R8000 to redo the brakes on a Merc C180 when there was absolutely nothing wrong with the brake discs or pads.
German, Japanese, South Korean ... they're all run by locals who are in a money printing business.

I will never buy a Korean car. Driven plenty and never been pleased. I'll stick to the Germans or Japanese for now. They may be a lot more expensive than their Korean counterparts, but in the long run you get what you pay for.

I have to drive 40km to get to a nicer Kia Service Centre. There is one less than 3km away from my house which I had the worst experience ever and will never go there again. Took car in for service. Got it back 3 hrs later than promised while all the time I sat in their lounge. Drive the car away only to realise something seriously wrong. They buckled 2 of my wheels somehow and then insisted that they received the car like that yet no mention of it was made. Then the dealer principal had the nerve to pass a side remark that we are only looking for free tyres. And that the first service.
