That is not strictly true these days. They are only slightly more expensive, or at times around the same price...

We have the new Picanto and the Rio sedan. No problems so far, touch wood. Before that, we had the old Picanto which was written off when I was rear ended on the highway (she had almost 150K on the clock, 10 years old). I'm sure there are legit concerns, but Kia fourways have been ok so far.

I agree with some of the forumites. You are going to get horror stories about all brands, and the dealerships will try and rip you off. I posted previously about my bad experiences with VW and Opel.

EDIT: Go look at something like http://www.reliabilityindex.com/ as an example. You don't get what you paid for. Look at some of the worst reliable cars and their prices.

The index refers to the quality and durability of the product of which I am not arguing with.The service of Kia is not mentioned in the index and that is my main problem and concern.

Pretty out of date website though. The Peugeot 208 is 2 years old, and its not there yet.

EDIT: Flip they have the Hyundai Getz but not the i20! Or even the Accent!

True but what frustrates the KIA owner here is lack of care and respect from KIA SA and the dealership. I have bad service experience from BMW, Audi and VW. The difference is that VWSA lost me as a client because they showed no respect. BMW and Audi so far always listen and attempt to resolve complaints.

Yeah, I used it mainly as an example. They don't have a lot of the newer models.
 
I recently took my Rio in for a dash rattle that you can only hear when going above 70 - 80km/h. The technicians took the car out and naturally cannot hear it. The consultant did mention that there is a TSB out and they will need 2 - 3 days to repair it though.

I told him I don't want the risk of hearing even more rattles after the dash has been put back in again, he said there isn't any risk and they won't make the problem worse. I am not convinced though, so I will try to live with it than risk them messing it up more.

I have also taken my car in three times to two different dealers to query a strange noise when changing gears and accelerating out. Not too sure, but it sounds like linkage or something slipping. A technician and a sales agent drove with me and can hear the noise, they both said it's not right, but as soon as they have the car they "can't replicate the noise".

I received shocking service from Kia Paarden Eiland and friendly service from Kia Tygerberg/Stikland even though they can't fix my problems.
 
Not sure if this will work for you, but I had a tracker installed in my car. I know it is installed in the dash because I mainly use it for testing purposes at my job so I need access to it. A short while after it was installed a rattle developed which I lived with for a few months and then one day decided to have a look. Took out the glovebox and found it actually was not the tracker unit but a bolt that holds in place the fusebox. Might have been touched as part of the tracker installation or not, anyway its fixed now and no more rattle.

So maybe you can have a look and see if it is something obvious like that?
