How can 8ta improve?

I have only had good dealings with 8ta, so can't really comment on suggestions but I can give hints on where I wish they would stand in the future.

1st off, would be to increase their coverage. Only thing that is prohibiting me from getting an 8ta voice, is the uncertainty of "will I have signal"

2nd, Bigger usage packages, as the internet developed, and the 3GB joins the 640kb saying in the museum of phrases, we need bigger packages to surf youtube indefinatly.

3rd off, I would like to see higher end consumer electronic products, that either undercut or are very competitive in price, bundled with either data or voice products.

4th and last point, please increase your backhaul. In my neighbourhood, telkom refuses to replace the stolen copper lines after the 37th theft, and a lot of my neigfhbours have gotten 8ta. The tower we connect to only has a 20MB backhaul link, so @ peak times it feels a bit congested and slow.

  • Which new products would you like to see?

Products like the 10GB a month on pre-paid.

LTE trials be done with existing customers in exsting coverage areas, and not just be a general public thing in CBD areas.

  • Are there areas where 8ta can improve its support?

    Support has been decent

  • Can they make it easier for you to buy their products?

It was easy enough to go to a store. Being able to do most of the work online would be better though.

  • Where do you think the company is losing ground against its competitors?

Signing people up for 24 months. Give more freedom in terms of sign-up periods and data bundles.

8.ta has come leaps and bounds in this area, yes a greater variety at cheaper prices on it's data would be excellent, but the option to now use a credit card for prepaid topups is excellent!

Better coverage
Better deals for people who use a lot of data, perhaps an uncapped option without throttling speed
More efficient process for signing up new customers. It took me 3 hours of form-filling and waiting in the Telkom shop to get a contract.

I use the 8TA cellphone for work purposes and certain issues can be improved upon.

There are often dropped calls so signal strength needs to be sorted.
There are often times when calls do not come through to the phone and it goes straight to voicemail so that issue needs to be sorted.

I am very happy with the free minute feature as I have never bought airtime for the phone as incoming calls do that for me.

8ta is great! Great price for my 10Gig/Month package. Only gripe I have is sometimes the signal is a bit weak. Whether it's just during peak times, or low/patchy coverage, either way more capacity needs to be added. But I'm sure 8ta is always improving it's capacity anyway.... Just need it to happen in the areas where I use it :D

Take over the landlines!

Telkom has a non-existent pre-paid offering. Face it more and more people are taking cellphone contracts with free voice minutes. I myself have Neotel pre-paid where I get free voice call on net without having to pay a cent extra pre-month. My telkom landline sits there doing nothing cause the rental rate is just not worth it.

In South Africa more and more people can get better services via wireless technology as to getting it via a cable coming into your house. (Im talking about South Africa in general, those who dont have 40mb/s lines coming into their homes)

Looking ahead, more and more people are "talking" via text (bbm) or video (Skype / Facetime)...the landline with a handset on the other end is just going be so out dated!

...Take over the landline - work your magic with marketing! Offer better rates and throw that line rental rate out the window!

1. A landline number to Support. If you have broadband with them but not an 8ta phone, it can cost heavily to call support.
2. Answer the phone! The wait is inordinate and I have twice waited for nearly an hour.
3. Less shaping. I never get more than a third of the 7Mbs I'm supposed to get. Usually I get about 1Mbps even when the signal is good.

8ta is doing great!
If they keep on steadily improving their coverage, they'll become a big player in mobile data soon!
(Oh, it would be great if your promo-data bundles would also work while roaming on MTN)

Thanks!

Enable "Personal Wifi Hotspot" for the iPad.

This specific issue has been reported to 8ta many a times.. There is alot of customers flocking to Cell C because of this..

I would like 2 things from 8ta:

1) make all data available anytime of the day instead of day and nightly
2) allow multiple sims to use the same data bundle

Finally i hope all the these or some of these comments will be attended too its about time someone gives the other networks some real competition rem...Telkom has the infrastructure to make it work....

Coverage and informative SMSes

I have 8ta reception where I stay, but it is very weak compared to other networks like MTN. The most dissappointing coverage area in my opinion at this moment is at OR Tambo airport. Get more coverage or give data roaming on products please.

I would like to receive SMS notifications on a regular basis please because the application that connects my HSPA doesn't even remotely accurately show my data usage. When I use the sim in my tablet I receive a SMS only when I have burned through my 10 GIG BIG cap. I tend to burn data very quickly between downloads and online gaming and I would like a fair warning at least so I can stop downloading and reserve the data for online gaming.

Better communication.

It's happened three times that someone from a 3rd party company has phoned me scheduling an antenna installation without any word from 8ta. I've also made it abundantly clear that I cannot have this at my current residence, but still people are phoning me about installations. Quite annoying.

I mainly feel 8ta needs to improve their coverage. I live in Moreletapark in Pretoria and have excellent 3G coverage there, but I work as a consultant and have really struggled to get any sort of decent coverage in the following areas in Johannesburg:
Sandton (Investec building), Illovo Boulevard / Rosebank, Marshalltown (Standard Bank, 5 Simmonds Street).

I have been forced to get a Vodacom 3G dongle and contract to supplement my 8ta one, because I can only rely on 8ta at home, whereas Vodacom seems to work everywhere.

8ta also drops the connection very often, which is less prevalent with Vodacom.

More data options between 2+1 and 60+60 with the excellent promotion prices.

Make the current promotions normal pricing. :D

Make night data useable during the day over weekends (11pm Friday through to Monday 5am) or make it useable earlier. Perhaps from 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Cannot fault 8ta's towers, connection is great considering. I get 1.9Mbit with 32% signal and fall outside official coverage.

Haven't had to make use of support thus far, but the 8ta rep here has been quick and helpful with questions I had before getting 8ta.

If your coverage maps remain up to date, that would be brilliant.

I would like the monthly charge for the package to be based on a sliding scale.
As with most broadband providers they sell the product based on the throughput that the user might get when connecting to their network. Unfortunately it is usually the user who gets degraded speed at some point or another due to congestion on the network. A sliding payment scale is needed where the user pays a "sliding" amount based on what their network speed is like.

Better coverage is needed so that the rest of the country could also use 8ta's own network. Or, 8ta needs to allow clients roaming on MTN to also have access to their network at lower rates (10GB packages) like those on their own network are able to.
