How can you drive into cyclists?

Arrogant motorists are far more dangerous than 'irritating' cyclists.

Cyclists have every right to be on the road and ride 2/3 abreast; you can OVERTAKE if you like. There is no law obliging cyclists to 'stick to the side' - in fact it's probably more dangerous as you get clipped by wing mirrors. Assertive cycling it where it's at.
And then I come around a blind corner, legally at 120km/h, and a bunch of you a$$es are driving 2/3 abreast...

BTW, afaik, there are bylaws in most municipalities about cyclists in single file.

Choice people in these parts hey.

Anyway - my money's on there being far more idiots driving than cycling.

It's a matter of relativity. If 10% of 10,000 drivers are idiots - the same 10% of 500 cyclists are idiots.

The only reason you see more idiots in cars is because there is a bigger pool to pull them from. It would be the same thing if there were more cyclists than motorists - there would be far more idiots cycling than driving.

Not even bylaws - this is an actual traffic regulation ... cyclists have to remain in single file unless passing a slower cyclist.

I'm by no means that cyclists can't be idiots -what you say is true - however cyclists are still far more likely to encounter an idiot motorist than a motorist encounter an idiot cyclist.

Some cyclists in Durbanville insist on riding around during rush hour particularly through the avenue of trees.

The road is narrow with crumbling verges so you have this long queue of vehicles behind a self-important spandex cycler obliviously grooving to his ipod.

That's when I long for a left-hand drive vehicle.

You mean they dare to use the road when you're driving!?

Indeed.

I pay to use the road with my license and petrol. ;)

Actually it's all about consideration and generally cyclists are a rather arrogant lot ( I know they are also car owners but something happens to the brain when they have a saddle under their butt. )

It's all about being considerate, which you are not. If you are out on your bicycle, I am sure you are there for leisure or fitness purposes. People driving cars actually have places to go. If I get stuck behind one more phalanx of cyclists on Camps Bay drive, I am going to scream. There is a long stretch where the ONE lane there is, is barely wide enough for one car, so there is no overtaking possible. Yet, cyclists insist on either driving in packs or in the middle of the road. At about 20. For a good few kilometres.

They are breaking the law - organise a citizens arrest, or get a car with broken rings and drive right in front of them.

http://www.acts.co.za/rt_nrta/regs_311_riding_on_pedal_cycles.htm

National Road Traffic Act, 1996
National Road Traffic Regulations, 1999
Chapter X : Rules of the road and matters relating thereto
Part I : Rules of the road
311. Riding on pedal cycles

2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time.

1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle.

In other words they can't lift their butts off the saddle at any time.

I ride 10 km each way to work almost every day - it's for fitness and transport, perhaps you should try it.

Historically, cyclists also had to have a license to use their vehicle on a public road. They don't anymore, so I have no idea what gives them the right to act as though they own the road...

LOL. I know you from the arrogant and typically cyclist and typically disrespectful way you have been posting in this thread.

I am happy for you that you ride 10km to work almost every day. Do you want a medal? The majority of cyclists are not travelling to work I can assure you, and even if they/you are, there is nothing to stop you having a bit of respect for other road users or from having a bit of class. Maybe that is a bit much to ask...

Citizen's arrest. That is actually a good idea. Citizens have almost the same rights as police officers when it comes to arresting people in the process of committing a crime. Excellent.

Well said Henry!

I always look at the amount of advertising on the kit of the cyclist - the more there is, the more k@k you're going to get (I still remember having a combi with m$ written all over it holding back 2km of peak hour traffic for cyclists with m$ kit).

My opinion only of course, but anyone who cycles to work with our taxis on the road needs an appointment with the shrink.

Motor cyclists are a regular target so a cyclist is simply cannon fodder.
