feel free to quote one single widely regarded global quality rating, or when you're ready to admit they do not exist, come crawling back here ... but hey seeing as "hundreds have been done" it should be easy to quote some ...

nearest attempt is the world steak challenge, its method is terribly flawed in that it focuses on specific restaurants and specific butchers etc, there is no "country rating" though people tend to add up all the medals by country and declare the one with the most the winner ... a upmarket steakhouse in Antarctica could fly in the best Japanese cut and prepare it to impress judges and the win would go to Antarctica

one would also need to enter the competition first before having any representation, many beef producing countries don't enter at all
Clown is back.

Make sure it's charcoal, then a few more minutes for good measure. For some reason Spur doesn't seem to understand that very well done means no pink at all. Then after sending it back it's still dripping blood. And no matter what people say I've never seen a tender pinkish piece of meat.

LOL @ meat snobs. Most get their knowledge from clowns on Youtube or TikTok.
Yes medium rare can be good if you use some excellent quality steak. Not really available in SA.
But here in SA the clowns all chew their medium rare Karan feedlot cheap steaks till their jaws go into spasm.
Its a lack of IQ. They feel like some primitive Neanderthal eating a bloody steak and beg for attention of people(mostly women) looking at you eating that bloody steak.
Medium to medium well is the best way to eat normal steak we all buy.

Okay. 🤣

I would never pretend to like something based on someone else's opinion. I like medium rare because I actually like it that way!

Also medium-well. Don't like the plasma dripping on my plate. If it was meant to be eaten rare, what is fire for? Plus, I have lasting PTSD from seeing tapeworm videos in school from undercooked meat.
Nothing should be dripping if it was rested properly.

Other, Still running around with FMD thank you very much....

At home or where I know what's happening in the kitchen or on the braai Med rare

In a restaurant Med well - to kill any unwanted stuff.

never knew people get so worked up about dead animal flesh,
but then again I know almost nothing when asking for medium to well
as I see medium rare getting lots of votes

I usually aim to cook my steak medium, but end up with medium-rare, which I'm okay with, I just prefer medium.

My mom likes her steak to be biltong. Cook it until it's well done, and then you're about half-way. Sies.
Unlike my medium-well/well done steak preference, I like my biltong wet (not too wet) to medium. :)

Grew up with steak always well done but over the years have finally seen the light and now med-rare only as that's what tastes the best.

The best steak I have ever had is when I say "Chefs prerogative".
I don't think that means what you think it means.
A chef's prerogative (or privilege) refers to the unofficial, often humorous, right of the cook to take the first taste, the best bite, or indulge in a "secret" treat—like licking the spoon or beating the bowl—before the food is served to others. It represents a small, well-earned reward for their labor.
.

I normally like Medium. But it depends on the cut. Sometimes I want the outer fat to be crunchy

Smoked meats in the USA are better than anything ive had here or anywhere else.

But, when it comes to grilling a steak, I would say ours rival the best in the world.

Listen Skippy. I made a statement. You immediately dismissed it and also said don't look at overpriced this and that. You want to move the goal posts to where you can reach.
Now again you want to tell everyone who and what they should read and what is flawed.
Sound like only your excellent palate is good evidence, nobody else's opinion matters.
Do you even realise how stupid that sound?
You dismiss everything but give not a single piece of evidence backing your argument except your own taste buds.
