If you want some very unique and low-cost wedding photos, buy a bunch of disposable cameras and hand them to the guests, and collect them afterwards. That way you'll get a good variety of photos, and probably some funny and dodgy late-night photos as well. This way you'll have unique wedding photos that people would actually WANT to look at. I'm sure a lot of people are now sick and tired of looking at wedding albums in the same style, with the same poses as everyone else.

Well, I am currently planning me and my fiance's wedding. We got a venue that charges R220 a head. That includes your food, venue and chapel. It is quite a good deal if u think about it. O, and it includes a 2 night stay for the bridal pair with Spa treatment included. Very good deal, but you have to be more than 60 ppl I think.

That's a very good idea mate, maybe leave them on the chairs in the chapel..... hmmmmmmmm

My wedding cost R4200:

Two x peace workers to clean up house = R200
Spit Braai for 60 people (in 2002) = R1000
Booze: R3000

60 hammered, well-fed, happy friends. R4200 later. It can still be done for under 10K, provided extravagance and reality play a role:

Dress: get something nice, something she can wear again as evening wear. My wife already had something.
Photos: In this day and age, tbh, the amounts being charged vs the value is ridiculous. In the old days, you could cut up the prints and burn the negatives when you got divorced. Now, you gotta hit facebook and go delete crazy and undo the internet to get rid of the damn things. So rather get a friend with a decent digicam to take a few pics - pics you will not, really, linger over in moments of nostalgia.
Venue: even if your own place is too small or not suited to the event, there are several places that can be secured for R5K.
Food: spit braai and two vegetarian lasagnes has every single guest happy and well fed. Trust me on this.

Oh, and the video? Again, in my day we got value for money: I could record three episodes of South Park over it and actually enjoy it. Now, you get a DVD that you will never watch again. Ever. But you have to store it, ere your betrothed thinks ill of you.

Now that's the kind of wedding I would enjoy! The less you spend and the less frills, the fewer things can go wrong. If something does go wrong, you laugh it off and enjoy the rest of the wedding because you didn't pay an arm and a leg...

Just celebrated 5 year wedding anniversary .(this after 11 years on and off dating) - R7k total - including rings, clothing, picture, food and drinks.

we had speeches, toasts and pre-drinks at home. We took our pictures.

30 people, took them to Boston BBQ at Goldreef(yes it does sound cheesy and not the thing to do) - but it worked out very well.

With photographers - look for people just starting out but with good quality photos - they are usually a lot cheaper as they don't have name yet.

Exactly what we did. Was really cheap and we got the amazing photos as she was more interested in the results than the money.

Not exactly low cost anymore - also only do it to complement your photos not replace the professional. I got friends that can vouch for that. There where more photos of the other guests and strange things than of the couple. They where glad they had a professional that took photos of them only.

Also they where not surprised with my camera - photos of urinal, the toilet, my ass in a mirror, two drunken guests getting it off :)

EDIT: But do ask all your guests to take photos and send them to you. My sister in law was very disappointed with her daughters wedding photographer. He took 10 photos of the guests and about 30 of the bride & groom then he disappeared as they paid him upfront (bad idea). She got more good shots from the guests than from him.

Man, that sucks. I paid quite a lot for my wedding photographer, but I must say, we loved her. I appreciated her good quality, low-light shots, my wife appreciated her easy manner and the fact that she's a lady taking photos of my wife while dressing (a dude in there can be a bit weird, even if he doesn't see anything). We had great after service and got three albums which my wife - 2 years later - still show to anybody new in our house. The other two smaller ones went to the parents - which they also quite enjoyed and are still found on their coffee tables.

With regards to the Video - we originally decided "nah". In the end, the DJ gave us a good deal on the music (which you could choose the style of before-hand using an online site with previews of the music) and a videographer (his wife). What I really appreciated is the fact that she included a mic in my suite for our vows - you can actually hear them! - and also linked directly to the DJ's setup for the reception speeches. These really made a difference, the stuff is seriously high quality video and audio. We also enjoyed watching the DVD afterwards and seeing a couple of funny and cool things we didn't pick up the evening, and had great fun watching the other couples dance (which you don't focus on that evening).

Got married in January. Food is the killer at R240 pp x 80.
R130000, including wedding rings(cheaper than her engagement ring) for both of us, without the honeymoon. It depends on a number of factors tbh. We were not going to skimp on the photographer as well as the venue, although the venue worked out much cheaper than some of the places in Stellenbosch. 1 big piece of advice is to budget and also add some extra cash for miscellaneous expenses.

To be honest, if I did it again, i would elope, ship the family over and have a wedding on the beach with family and a few friends. When you realise how u get @$$raped with prices in cape town, its seriously over the top.

Other than the cost and the fact that you dont get BJ's once you put the ring on the finger, marriage is pretty awesome, of course if she is the right woman.

I just think of the tablet PCs, camera lens, surround system and huge TVs I could buy instead ;)

Though - I understand what you mean.

That sounds like the best option :)
I never dreamed of my wedding when I was a little girl, and there is no way I could justify spending R100k on 1 day.
Also planning a wedding seems like too much effort.

A marrige certificate is dirt cheap at dept of home affairs. Dont know the exact price but wont be more than a 100 bucks. So thats R100 if she really loves you, the less she loves you the more expensive it becomes!

Terrible suggestion (but really funny)
