How long do MTN pre-paid data bundles last?

The expiry dates of my father's last two pre-paid data bundles were 60 days from the date of purchase. I bought a 1GB bundle for him today while he still had some data remaining and saw the following:
Y'ello, you have
1.15 GB total data.
153.47 MB exp on 20/11
1.00 GB exp on 20/12
Brought to you by MTN.
I had a look at the T&Cs but couldn't see anything that would explain why his latest bundle is only valid for 42 days.

It lasts 60 days, their system is messed up when you load another data bundle before the previous one expires.

phone them, if they don't sort it out ask for the supervisor.

I called 083-1555 and the operator sounded like he was aware of the problem; he said he would put me through to 173 and said I must ask to speak to a supervisor who can then change the expiry date for me.

After I was put through I spoke to a rather unhelpful consultant who said I must wait for the bundle to expire and then call back. I asked to speak to a supervisor but he wouldn't put me through, he then asked for my number again and said I am experiencing a 'system error' and that the bundle will actually expire on January 8, 2010.

MTN adhoc data bundles (as with VC) last from date of activation until the last day of the next month. So maximum of 60 days and minimum of 30.
For MTN their 1st of the month is the 17th.
This is why i always activate on 17th.

Only the supervisor can sort it out and it seems their helpdesk system is slower than the rest so give it a day or so then try again.

So the bundle expired on the 20th, I can't say I'm surprised.

I've just spent 17 minutes talking to Lulu on 173. She confirmed the bundle should have expired in January. She would have given me a credit, but their systems have not updated the usage since December 12 so she cannot determine how much I had left when the bundle expired prematurely.

Lulu called me a back a little while ago to say that her supervisor is loading 515MB which will expire on January 8, 2010. This is after I told her I thought there was 250MB remaining.

*141*1*3# now says:
Y'ello, you have
515.00 MB total data.
515.00 MB
Brought to you by MTN.

Thank you MTN and Lulu! :D

I used to get those sms messages every month while I used mtn for data. The sms was always sent in error.

I don't get those on vodacom, i just get a blank sms from vodacom 23 every few days.

MTN data bundle only for 30 days???

Just received this sms from MTN now on a 1 gig data bundle i purchased on 2010-04-03

Y'ello, your remaining unused data bundle will expire in 48 hours.
Time: 01/05/2010 09:14:54

I've finished the 1 gig a few days ago and atm i'm using the .29c OOB rate, but aint this bundle valid for 60 days? If the bundle expires, will it kick back to R2.00 per mb?  If so then i've missed something somewhere. :wtf: :wtf:

60 days only applies to your Data bundle*, so if you're on OOB then yes it'll kick back to R2.00/MB.*

*As far as I know.

OK it's the first time in over 2 years that i 'm on a MTN bundle again, so i thought with the new OOB price i can go on at 29c till the end of bundle (60 Days)

Yeah you're better off buying a 2GB bundle and managing that for the 2 months.

Thx drake, but i'll stick to the 1gig for the moment as i'm waiting to see what VC comes up mid May on the std bundles. I am not impressed with MTN's speed on my E220 7.2 on a 7.2 tower.

Sorry, I'm lost now, if that is indeed the case then what would be the purpose of providing a cost table for OOB rates? As I understand it, if I purchase a 2 gig bundle, it lasts 60 days, should I however use that up prior to the 60 day period, OOB rates at around R0.19c per meg would apply for the remainder of those 60 days? Not so? Or have I completely misunderstood the whole thing?
