How much cheaper Openserve is than Vumatel

They were the fibre-saviours yes, but ever since Johann Rupert's Remgro acquired a piece of Vumatel things have started to change (in their favour). Gotta keep those shareholders happy!

Perhaps not everyone is in to price gouging and exploiting customers?
 
Vumatel need to wake up.and become more closer in price to other providers

That they were, even had a friend switch over from Openserv 2 years ago to Vumatel as the package with Vumatel was better, now they could get more for less with Openserv and a lot less.
 
Speaking under correction here, but is Telkom's infrastructure not cheaper to deliver. I remember reading that their equipment tops out at 350MBit because of the way it aggregates fibre signals.

Vumatel uses a more expensive model, but they can support 1Gbit+ lines as a result.
 
I wish there was a way to get more fiber providers, we are stuck with Vumatel, there is zero incentive for them to drop their pricing.

The only thing that will force Vumatel's monopoly is Stattalite and LTE and I do not see that happening anytime soon.

that is ridiculous. when i wanted to upgrade i enquired about 20/10 which is a great combo for me. no sir. **** off with your kak question. thats the options on vuma so just pick one....

this openserve aerial fibre is appealing. how do they select areas?

vuma the new telkom...
 
those pictures make me naar....why cant they improve that 50/5..i mean its for work..not even for gaming..just better upload...5 is just so kak..

i havent even got the email from vox yet about that price increase yet...that R1k is a phycological line in the sand...could be having 100/50 on openserve for less...

Unfortunately most FNO avoid "overlaying" fibre as it leads to lower up take in a suburb making it uneconomical.
There are a few areas where 2 FNO have fibre cables, but this is not common.

Fortunately there are some alternatives to fibre:
  • Various WISP
  • MTN Air "Fibre" (Tarana Wireless)
  • Uncapped Fixed LTE/5G (eg RAIN, MTN fixed 5G home Wi-Fi, etc)
  • Starlink (my personal favorite)
Hopefully this will put pressure on FNO's that have captive customers to offer competitive rates.
 
To the folks crying about Vuma prices, that's how those of us on Openserve felt for the last few years comparing our speeds/costs ie asymmetric fibre and price to Vuma et al.

You have a right to complain in one year. Just kidding. Hope something gives.
 
This is really a silly article. OpenServe does not sell retail fibre. They don't even advertise retail prices on their website. In fact, the parent company Telkom has not yet updated their retail fibre prices on their website, to align with the new OpenServe wholesale prices.

Not really.

Gpon is easier to rollout than AE like Vuma does. Vumatel is the only network that has AE as far as I know and that coverage might seem like a lot but it's not actually. When they acquired Fibre hoods and SADV that coverage increased a lot. Then there is their own gpon roll outs from the start like Vereeniging. They also have the Vuma Reach roll outs which are all gpon.

Is it better well it depends hey. 10Mbps gpon vs 10Mbps AE there will not be a difference at all. Maybe if there is a bunch of 1Gbps clients then AE has an advantage over gpon but then again just reduce the splits on gpon to increase capacity.

I can assure you that Openserve network is very capable. I have 2 x 200Mbps lines on the same ONT running at full speed of 424Mbps when both lines are maxed on download. That is another nice part of Openserve that I like. The ONT that is installed can essentially have different B numbers from different ISPs activated on each lan port at different speeds and can dial pppoe from other ISPs. Even multiple sessions from different ISPs on the same line.

True open access fibre.

We got aerial fibre.... except my one back neighbour refuses to cut his tree. I'm gonna set the thing alight and tell him it must have been started by the wires on the pole. If his house burns down... too bad.
