How much sugar are you consuming

About nothing, I use raw honey.

So - the housekeeper comes back from shopping, I go out & help her bring stuff in from the car.
We are in the kitchen talking while she is packing the groceries.
Amongst the stuff is 2 x 2.5 kg of white sugar & 1kg of brown sugar.

I ask her is she is preparing for uhuru or something with all the sugar.
She laughs , and laughs, "it's you" she says still chuckling.

I came to the conclusion, that between breakfast cereal everyday, coffee etc, I am going through the better part of 2kg of sugar per month on my own - which sounds mildly alarming, but works out to be 24kg a year - and that is without all the other foods that contain sugar.

So now with rather long teeth, I am sipping away at my 1st cup of coffee without sugar - and its crap !

You're fooling yourself if you think honey is much healthier than sugar. The GI is almost identical, and the difference in grams of carb per 100g is pretty much down to the water content.

i used to be on four teaspoons of sugar per cup of coffee (since pre-primary), plus a layer of sugar on cornflakes which i repeated after eating the top half. butternut got syrup and cookies i baked got the full amount of sugar according to the recipe.

my wife was pretty much the same.

about 10 years ago i cut a teaspoon of sugar out my coffee. one time. then i was down to two spoons. slowly i've gone down to half a spoon now. i've noticed that butternut is quite sweet on its own. even lindt's 70% chocolate is sweet.

my wife annoyed me with something and i decided to "punish" her by decreasing the sugar in her tea over a few months. she's now on half a teaspoon too. according to blood tests, she's borderline insulin resistant, so cutting back on sugar early has really helped her i reckon.

cakes, tarts, cookies, icecream, pie, sweets... all of them are now difficult to eat. i also don't trust people to make my coffee now, because it's like flavoured sugar when they do.

.... and now at my in-laws, they're making sweet roti. i see one gets like three spoons of sugar, but just like chocolate, this is one of my weaknesses. :)

Even if it is aids, the honey having started to take that instead of sugar has brought my consumption of both coffee and sugar. Having done this, I've already dropped a lot of weight. Out of these I see two options, I could have stayed with the sugar and kept on being in state or played around with the honey which I did and ended up better. Now go take your huisgenoot-gi-fabs and **** off :)

Jeez I'm all for sugar, but how the hell do people drink three or four in a cup of coffee and still taste anything else?

Since going off sugar and Coke I can honestly say my energy levels have been much more consistent and predictable and getting through a day has been much easier without feeling the need to snack in between.

The only sugar I have is in the house is for when guests come. It always ends up caking up after a while because I never use it.

I have never drank sugar in my tea or coffee and I don't understand this South African cultural norm where it's weird not to drink sugar in your beverages. I always getting funny looks when buying coffee McDonalds or Wild Bean Cafe when I say I don't want sugar, I mean is it really that odd?

I gave up sugar in my coffee three days ago. By 12:00 I would usually have had 3-4 coffees. The first day or two was bad, felt like when I quit smoking...irritable, uncomfortable, inability to focus. Much better now - and the coffee is starting to test better also. :)

Well done :D

Coffee with sugar in it tastes like absolute ass.

my total carb per day is about 20g. It never exceeds 45g

So my daily sugar intake is ~0

I do use sucralose in my coffee from time to time, but coffee and cream is good for me.

That's pretty much it.

I make a snack where I mix coconut oil, natural peanut butter, coco powder, cream and almond flour. and I freeze it into ice trays for a bite sized snack.

It's a nice snack but well you pretty much got the main ones down. Pork Rind/Crackling is a good source too (although high in sodium) but I haven't been able to find a good source of pork rind

I rarely have sweets or chocolate like once every few months and I have 1-2 sugars in my tea or 0 if I froth the milk in the microwave.

Don't use sugar ever in my cereals and don't see why anyone would use sugar with it :p.

I don't drink coke or tea much or even Steri-stumpies, but I do drink orange juice quite a lot everyday.

Nee ***.

I can understand sugar with cereal (aka cardboard) much easier than with coffee.

That snack sounds AMAZING do you have a recipe fort the quantities?

A friend of mine used to take 6 spoons of sugar in coffee !
From time to time i would go to a meeting or something similar with him, as custom dictates, coffee & tea is usually offered by the host.
The person serving would ask "how many sugars"? My friend would reply "6 please".
The poor bugger serving would stand there with a sheepish & uncertain smile of disbelief on their face having no idea as to how to proceed :D
