I've seen alot of articles and excitement lately about the S3 and OneX and the anticipation of the new iPhone. Here's what's got me down though. R8000+ :confused:

Let me say that again. R8000+ for a flagship phone? Doesn't anyone else see a huge WTF going on here. Seriously :cry:

Anyone else feel that these prices are absolutely INSANE?

:sick::sick::sick::sick::sick::sick:

People get these phones on contract for R350 a month with 75MB of data and R200 of airtime every month.

I don't understand how my company has a corporate account with Vodacom and the best they can do is offer me is the S3 on a Talk350 with pay in of R3200 or on a Talk500 with pay in of R3000. WTH? And that includes NO data. Something tells me we're being screwed.

It is not as simple as that. There might be benefits to the company that you as a user may not be aware of.

Solution is easy. Stop using vodacom.

I asked that same question. The only benefit we get is 16% discount on the bill. This falls away if you decide to amortise the phone.

Unfortunately I'm not in the position to make that call.

I have just asked to be sure. We can amortise the pay in and keep your discount....but this needs to worked out manually and will not be the same as the standard financed deals available to individuals. You need to request a quote from who ever your dealer is.

Taking weaker Rand conditions that before into account the flagships have always been that expensive? And one point even above 10K for some of them.

On the cheapest deal on Vodacom, the S3 works out at something like R7040. For some inexplicable, bizarre reason the One X is around R500 more.( :wtf: :wtf: )

My previous "flagship phone", The Xperia X10, cost a little more than either of those, 2 years ago already. Yes, it is a crapload of money (you can get a decent laptop for less), but it's not as if there's been a sudden massive price increase.

If you want to see ludicrous pricing, try an iPhone. Those things were like R11k a year ago, and you get far less for your money...
