How safe is 1time?

Yeah, would be a shame for 1time to disappear. They have the more generous leg room of the LCC's even though old aircraft. The sound they make when taking off!

My best regional flying experience was with BA, had an emergency exit row. Felt like first class compared to Kulula I flew the week before.

Ja. Tell me soutp...erm...meneer....what do you think of the Embraer 195 for 1Time? Would it be a good fit? Cheaper than a Boeing or Airbus + it is a airliner known to our aviation industry? I think they should look at it. They really do need more economical planes if they are going to pull through this.

1time one chance! :D

I'm sure they are safe to fly with though.

I've got an allergy to those MD planes but it stems from history prior to the MD-83.

I really don't mind 1time. Like was said earlier, they do have better leg room, although I am not too happy about them charging extra if you want to sit in the emergency row. I think they call it premium seating and I think they charge an extra R50 per hour for the privilege.

I fly a lot around the country doing corporate training, but don't have a say in which airline. My boss who pays the tickets decides. :D

Perhaps 1time has improved since the last time I had to deal with them, but everyone I know who has flown with 1time more than once has a story to tell about an incident they've experienced. Some of the stories quite horrible. On my first and thankfully last time with them, the plane had to turn back midway because they couldn't get the landing gear down so when they finally managed to get it down they turned around to make an emergency landing. I think we eventually arrived 4-5 hours after we were supposed to arrive.

Like people mentioned above, pilot error, technical issues and bad luck are all factors, but it sure does seem to happen a lot to 1time. (or used to anyway)

They might have improved since then though. I've simply refused to fly with them again. Not only because of their issues, but with Kulula or Mango, if an issue does occur, they usually make a plan and put people on a flight from the parent company whereas with 1time, you're just stuck.

Flew SAA (domestic) twice this week, and I must say they are leagues ahead of all the competition - including BA.

Best flight and best service I've ever had on an airline.

I would re-consider flying 1Time after this announcement by their CEO this morning:
Look what happened to all those people who were flying on Velvet Sky Flights a few months ago, and who lost out on refunds.

Liquidation =/ business rescue. Under BR, it is business as usual for the customers of 1time whilst they are rearranging their short term debt.

I've flown with 1time a couple times and never had a problem with them. I've been happy with their service and as mentioned leg room is generally fairly good.
Even with these reports of engine's failing I'd still fly with them. The business recovery announcements are more worrying for me. And are the only thing that would make me reconsider flyign with them. They are however the only cheap airline flying to/from PE.

They use MD 80's, or as they are more affectionately know, McDonnel Deathtraps :p

I like that :)

I don't really have much confidence in the MD-80s. Most of the airplane disaster episodes (if not all) I've seen on tv where the disaster was caused by technical issues, a MD was involved.

Well to be fair the McDonnell Douglas planes (MD80s & MD90s) are no longer in production and have been replaced by the Boeing 737. In most cases where McDonnell Douglas aircraft fail it is because of bad maintenance. Remember they are 30 to 20 years old already so they do require attention. As airlines expand they buy newer airplanes for their fleet and sell the old ones to smaller startups. Kulula.com had a few MDs when I first flew on them but these days the only have 737s, 9 in total. 1time on the other hand only has has MD80s, 11 of them in total and most of them hand me downs from Kulula and SAA. If they are not looked after properly they will breakdown.

So the McDonnell Deathtraps are actually a result of bad maintenance. A far crapper plane would be an Airbus A330/340

Why do you say that? And "Because it is not a Boeing" is not a reason.

No, because they are French :p

Seriously though, I guess because they just love falling into the ocean for no reason and if you look at their fatalities since launch it is a bit high.

Oh, and because it is not a Boeing.
