How safe is 1time?

No, because they are French :p

Seriously though, I guess because they just love falling into the ocean for no reason and if you look at their fatalities since launch it is a bit high.

Oh, and because it is not a Boeing.

Well...I might be wrong...but iirc all the Air Crash Investigations I have seen...all Airbus accidents that I have seen were due to human fck ups. I have never gotten the impression that Airbus are not safe planes. I rather enjoyed my trip on a A340 to London...felt like a very sturdy airliner. Have never been on a A330 though.

Don't say that, I'm flying to Germany in Dec on an A340! Chose that over the A380 as it was a direct flight.

You will be fine. Only reason why A340 being retired by SAA and other airlines is because they are fuel hungry and the A330 more fuel efficient seeing it only has two engines instead of 4.

I would not worry too much on which airline to choose, they all get you on the ground one way or another!

The only problem I have with cheap flights is the leg room, and 1Time is the worst of the bunch. I'm 6,6 and I pray for the flight to end every time I have to travel to CPT.
:(

I am also rather tall and leg room is always a pain in the @ss for me. That is why I normally try and get a seat by the emergency excit. I have flown with 1Time and Kulula and SAA...they all seemed to be pretty much the same when it came to leg room. Airlines wont differ all that much when it comes to leg room as the configurations for a certain model of plane is limited I think. They can change the pitch of the seats slightly to fit more people but that is about it....appart of course from varying the amount of seats in business and economy class.

I do remember my SAA flight to Cape Town has damn awful. Was a 737 still if iirc and damn...I got stuck between two heavily overweight guys. My shoulders were basically pinned and could hardly move my arms. I swear that flight felt longer than the one to London.

Did not know that the A340's were being replaced, with what ? A330's ?

+1, really helps if you are taller to try and get a seat at the emergency exit

Well...the smaller SAA A340's are been replaced by A330. SAA most likely will hang onto the larger A340's untill they decide on a new wide body replacement for those. I am hoping for the A350, tho still a while before this baby goes into production....so could swing towards the Boeing 777....but then it looks like SAA want to standarise on Airbus...so ...erm...I guess I dont know lol:p

The sound of those old JT8Ds is magic
Yes they are

Ja. Tell me soutp...erm...meneer....what do you think of the Embraer 195 for 1Time? Would it be a good fit? Cheaper than a Boeing or Airbus + it is a airliner known to our aviation industry? I think they should look at it. They really do need more economical planes if they are going to pull through this.

Hmm.. I like the E195 but it would be a rather big downgrade for 1time... about 40 seats. 1time is an LCC and the Embraer isn't an ideal LCC plane.. you'll find not many LCC's around the world operate them.

I dont understand why not though? Surely it is better have smaller planes that so that you can fly as close to 100% as possible? Specially on routes like PE and Bloem. For the busy routes get something like the A320 Neo or even the Irkhut MS21 (this looks like a very snazy little plain)

Also rather tall, and although they aren't local, I couldn't believe how comfortable I sat in KLM's EU bound 737's even in the normal seats, and needless to say the emergency exit seats was just about too much legroom. On the Airfrance A319 I was feeling like a sardine.

I don't think I'll fly SAA internationally, because they are usually one of the most expensive options, but I like the 777 more than the A340 now, nevermind the 787, I'd love to fly in that thing.

I really have no idea. There could be many reasons.. one is that LCC's try to have as many seats as possible in the best passenger to Flight attendant ratio.

LCC's also try to stick to one aircraft type, as operating two has extra costs like pilot training and maintenance.

Yeah, I had the same experience with Lufthansa in their A321s.. lots of space and the flight was half full which was nice.

You guys should try flying Ryanair.. flew with them from London to Greece on a 3 hour flight.. god it's absolute torture.

I've always found the 777 to be a horrible plane to fly on.. the A330/A340 series aircraft have always been a lot nicer in my experience.

I like that :)

I don't really have much confidence in the MD-80s. Most of the airplane disaster episodes (if not all) I've seen on tv where the disaster was caused by technical issues, a MD was involved.

You don't watch many disaster episodes then, do you?

Deadliest accident in aviation history
Second deadliest
Third

Their engines also fall off.

Nothing against the Boeing 747, just saying as others have mentioned, accidents and failures happen to all aircraft.

Oh, and Rouxenator, nice to see your ignorance about cars is nicely matched by your ignorance regarding aircraft.

if you look at their fatalities since launch it is a bit high herp derp da diddly dumb

Sure, let's look it up:

The A340 has never been part of a fatal incident.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A340#Accidents_and_incidents

OK, maybe the A330 is the deadliest aircraft ever in human history then to make up for it...

As of February 2012, the Airbus A330 had been involved in 13 major aviation occurrences,[135] including six confirmed hull-loss accidents[136] and two hijackings, for a total of 339 fatalities.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A330#Incidents_and_accidents

So in other words, fewer people died in all A330's in all of history then the amount who died in any one of the top 3 deadliest accidents.

Yup, them thar Frenchie jets shure are deathtraps, yes siree bob.

Or perhaps the bombardier c300...ut us big enough...but not too big that u gonna sit with empty seats. and cheaper than airbus or boeing and more fuel efficient. eis expted soon also. if i were 1time i would get these...put 11 on order to get a bit of a better deal perhaps and as they start coming in get rid of the md's 1 by 1

i hear on the radio today that they seeking some form o financial assistance. might explain some of the troubles.

They should instead just buy an Airbus because according to "experts" of the airline industry that will make them invincible.
