I have an uncapped account with Mweb.
Recently I purchased a backup from Afrihost.
When I enter the Afrihost details I get an Mweb landing page telling me I have entered the incorrect details !
I have reset the router ( Billion 800VGT) to factory defaults several times with no luck.
I have changed DNS settings and flushed the DNS cache. No luck.
I have confirmed the username and password with Afrihost.

All roads lead to an Mweb landing page http://landingpages.mweb.co.za/MWebHomeIncorrectUsernameorPasswordPage/tabid/817/Default.aspx

Can anyone shed some light on this. The router does not belong to Mweb as I had it before I had a moment of madness and signed up with them.

Is the line with Mweb ?

EDIT: Oh and try put your router in bridge mode and try connect direct from your pc with a ppoe connection.

EDIT2: and check your browser settings. I found DNS settings there for some reason for our work line that is also with Mweb

Thanks Nerfherder ... line is with Telkom
Tried the brige rout and desktop PPoE... changed all my DNS settings to OpenDNS. No luck. Onlly Mweb landing page !

You definitely entering the afrihost details only? Not some remnants of the username in the field still, that you're not seeing.
Try typing it in with a different browser.

Yep I am. It confirms username and password, I get an IP address (which is not an Mweb one ... I checked)... the router light comes on.... but the minute I open a browser (tried them all) I get the Mweb landing page !

Make sure that the page in your browser isn't cached, often the landing page is cached and it is then pulled up by the browser.

Try flushing your DNS? Not sure if that will work?

Maybe MWEB's DNS is still in your router?

Thanks. I tried that ... did an ipconfig/flushdns and rebooted. Changed router DNS to OpenDNS as well as on all network adapters. Still get Mweb landing page ! I hear they can lock routers in but they tell me only if the router was purchased from them .

I have had this, also on a Billion router. After you press apply, you need to save the config to write it to flash.

A couple of thoughts on this problem. Do you maybe have web accelerator software installed that might be redirecting to Mweb? Second, have you checked whether any proxies are set in the browser configuration or possibly in your anti-virus software.

Antivirus disabled. No web accelerators and no proxies.
I am at my wits end.

Switch router off, unplug, leave for 30 seconds, switch back on.

Did you buy the router or did you get it from an ISP?

Oh OK .. did that many times.
I purchased the router which makes it all the more puzzling.

I have this router firstly do what mike suggested if that does not work reset to current settings, go back to quick start don't change anything your new isp details should be displayed hit apply and save to config again. hope this helps

Another thought - try disconnecting from the Status page before you change the ISP details. Then apply, connect from the Status page and save the config.
