I have developed and packaged a product which I would like to market to various resellers. I would like to get barcodes for my packaging. After some research, I have discovered that I not only need to pay GS1 for a batch of barcodes, but I also need to register for something called a GLN number to associate with my company.
The GLN number registration alone is over R4000, but as far as I am aware, only Pick n Pay requires a GLN number to do business. Does anyone know it it is possible to buy a batch of 50-100 barcodes without registering for a GLN number? And is GS1 the most widely accepted standard of barcode for use in SA?
