How to protect yourself while using free Wi-Fi

Say I'm using the WiFi at starbucks and I just need to do some online browsing/reading without the need to enter any email passwords or credit card info, does logging into my windows 'Guest" account from the same laptop keep my primary account safe from any cyber attacks?
