So, all my life I've avoided eating fish. No reason why, I am not allergic.

I can only put it down to a bad experience with a fishbone or seeing my Dad gutting fish open when I was very young, but I literally gag when I eat fish. I vomit if I try eat Sushi.

I can, however, eat fishfingers with no problems. And I currently try eat crumbed hake, of the frozen I&J variety, but even then I drown it in tomato sauce to disguise the fishy taste.

I feel like I am missing out. I don't know my salmon from sole, nor cape salmon from norwegian salmon ;)

What is the best way I can get into eating fish? I figured I should go to a restuarant and order the best fish, expertly prepared and with the right sauces etc. Or is there a better way to do this?

Let's not get started on those cockroaches called prawns yet :/

Salmon would be pretty strong for you. Try Dorado or angelfish on the braai (lemon and salt).

try normal friend hake or grilled hake and chips

some fish are very fishy where as some are disguised very well

but you would feel the fleshy part so not sure how you would overcome that

try fish aways for now :D

My girlfriend was like you...

I found a simple solution, was to go to a decent fish and chips place, get a nice piece of battered hake, use the tartar sauce, and lashings of lemon juice to "mask" the fishy flavour.... slowly work the volume of lemon juice down to a normal level and you might surprise yourself.

I just have to get her to eat crayfish and prawns now.... but that is a bigger hill to climb.

but how the furk you dont eat seafood is another thing

i wish someone would bring me perlemoen and scallops to try ...crab i have never ate though and dont want to try

@OP dont you dare have oysters ..you can taste the sea :D

FishAways, F13, Grilled with rice.

I'm a cheap date, but it's about the only time I actually enjoy fish.

Try this, it will cure you:

Red Pepper pesto Salmon Tagliatelli

Ingredients:

Lightly smoked Trout, skinned and diced
Tagliatelli
1 x red onion finely sliced
1 tbs. olive oil
250ml Cream
1 tsp. Maizena
2 x tbs. Red pepper pesto (Princess brand or similar)
Thyme and oregano
Salt and pepper to taste

Cook the Tagliatelli until soft.

Fry the onion in olive oil, add thyme and oregano. Once the onions are glassy add the trout, once the trout is cooked add the cream, pesto ,salt and pepper and stir in the maizena until the sauce is thick.

Place the pasta in pasta bowls and add the salmon mix on top. Garnish with fresh parsley.

That sounds doable - and cheaper than a fancy restuarant. :)

That hill you have to climb, is more like Mount Everest ;)

I have actually, at the behest of my uncle. Lots of vomiting by me, and laughs by him, ensued.

You might ask how I never had seafood, but what's weirder is I never had peanuts until I turned 18. I had peanuts when I was 5 or 6, and it led to my lung collapsing - so my mother-dearest decided against it. It's now my favourite go-to-snack. Hoping the same could happen for fish!

Kingklip with a sauce doesn't have a fishy taste at all, e.g.:

Kingklip Alaska - Smoked salmon, creamy garlic sauce
Kingklip El Feta - Tomato salsa, Danish feta
Kingklip - Lemon butter/ Cajun spice

(from Cafe Orca in Melkbosstrand)

Looks delicious but is this salmon or trout? Heading says salmon but body says trout. :wtf:

Go to somewhere with only a fishing rod, lures and matches. Within a month you will be loving all sorts of fish or you'll be dead.
