Yip, probably, would not surprise me at all...Well yeah, but a massively delayed packet is treated as packet loss as far as I'm aware and resent from the source after a certain time frame....
TBH, to put my tinfoil hat on, I would not think it to far from the realm of possibility that VC will enable rules on the Deep Packet Inspection equipment that will deprioritise WhatsApp voice traffic randomly... and it will just not be the greatest experience to use...
Joosub said that you have to drive down pricing and make sure you have migrated customers to integrated bundles with voice, SMS and data to fight disruptive services like WhatsApp.
How Vodacom will combat WhatsApp
WhatsApp is set to launch voice services soon, threatening the core revenue stream of mobile operators. Here is how Vodacom will fight back.
but but but Mr CEO those promos are for on-net calls aren't they? With Whatsapp we are talking local and international calls so I don't think your comparison makes a bit of sense. Or maybe you have other tricks up your sleeve like throttling voip traffic to death??
So instead of embracing innovative services, they decide to demonize and fight them.
Viber already offers voice calls

They will do this yes, but make VOIP practically broken by DPI and either dropping VOIP packets or blocking the protocol completely. The latter they will not admit to, not publicly anyway.Demonize?
He basically said that they will reduce call prices to fight competition for voice calls with WhatsApp. This is a bad thing how?

I read it differently..
He said "We have these amazing promotional prices that are available if you jump through 94 flaming hoops at 3:31am every morning, can MAYBE bring the price down to 7c per minute, if you needed to speak to 1 person only for an entire 60minutes"
There is no mention of lowering prices, they just seem to be content to try pull the wool over their customers eyes instead.

What's with the conspiracy theories? Tin foil hat blocking off some blood flow?
Still don't see why everyone loves to hate Vodacom so much, they might not be the cheapest but their service is miles ahead of the other networks. I'd rather pay a little bit extra and have a functioning network 99.9% of the time.
Their 32 million active users and over 50 million registered sim cards also begs to differ when it comes to who people choose as their cellular network of choice.
It's the same as uncapped ADSL accounts, you get cheap and nasty and slightly more expensive but functional accounts.

60 minutes to anyone on Vodacom, not just one person, you can phone 60 people for 1 minute each if you feel like it
All that in 4 steps.
If you find that difficult maybe you shouldn't own a phone.
LOL I left Vodacom because people would say my phone was going to voicemail when it was next to me, with full signal, and the constantly having to reboot any handset I put the SIM into, to ensure I got all my SMS messages.
