90%+ people that I know are on VC, don't have an issue with that.

Got hold of networks after a moerse fight - STILL DID IT IN FRONT OF THEM, no answer, ever!
Switched to MTN, problem solved INDEFINITELY

You need to look up the difference between connectionless protocols (UDP) and connection orientated protocols (TCP).

Without UDP, you wouldn't have streaming radio/TV/voice etc.

There is a massive difference in getting a torrent delivered to your PC vs a streaming video.

Huh? the vast majority of streaming services nowdays use some flavour of HTTP nowdays.

I have learnt that til foil hat is a term used by those who can't even install a 3 pin plug onto a kettle cord. The same sort who will swear their OpenWeb Gamers King account runs nicely, but they will complain on other forums that GMail is broken, and no websites want to display during the day. As soon as you post something technical, which is a bit beyond their realm, they will cite tin foil hat. Pulling woowork boy's political party into it, is just :wtf:

I am aware of the difference between TCP/IP and UDP...

But to say that "downloads" get Guaranteed delivery and Streaming/Voip doesn't is bollocks of the highest order.... its a fair amount more complicated than that...

ToxicBunny, don't waste your breath, this lot know not a jot about TCP, never mind UDP or any of the other protocols for that matter.

Actually having some experience in this matter, and having been in the industry for a looong time, I know that the providers do use deep traffic inspection and QoS control, but the only 2 places I have first hand knowledge of, is that MTN PRIORITIZED MxIt traffic back in the day when it was super-popular, and a few years ago a Vodacom techie said they prioritized Skype traffic (voice included) over other traffic.


It all comes down to, how many people are moaning about the service, and do they risk losing customers? WhatsApp voice working on MTN and not Vodacom is something they just can't afford to do. If it's very popular and performs badly, they have to go out their way to make it better. Consumers still have SOME power. Love or hate Vodacom/MTN/whoever, they're still susceptible to people voting with their wallet.

IP is at Layer 3 - Network
TCP/UDP is at Layer 4 - Transport
So to the notation used is with I aware of the difference makes me wonder
UDP or TCP on IP Network

Like I said, I am aware of the differences etc etc... but its not really something for this post...

But his original statement that "Downloads get guaranteed" and "streaming/voip doesn't" is what I was trying to challenge without going into depth in terms of protocol choice etc etc etc...

First he acts dumb, then comes in with being in the industry for "A loooong time"
As someone who does a lot of RF work, EDGE and 3G modems and the like, I know the networks are always pulling shifty moves, and the only practical way I can think of is using deep packet inspection.

You can send anything you like via TCP, including video or streaming. He claimed, incorrectly that without UDP, streaming could not exist...

I suppose I shouldn't waste my breath telling him, I am streaming schitt on one of my products using TCP.
 
Skype gives me more than 10hrs from afrihosts R29 data package. (But I use it for video calling, which gives about 100min for R29)
