How will the ANC rig this election?

I really wonder what we have in common with Zim, the border maybe. In Zimbabwe: -
1. Mugabe did a major economic intervention with major repercussions, without any preparation. Zuma is already on record as saying there will be no major policy shift. Isn't that significant? Can anyone really foresee Tito Mboweni and Trevor Manuel sitting back while inflation shoots through the roof? How about introducing a 100 billion rand note? I don't see it happening.

2. Mugabe was unwanted. Instead of him leaving, he started a reign of terror on his opponents, whether political leaders ordinary citizens. Tsvangirai was severely beaten and MDC supporters were beaten, killed and chased away before Zanu PF won elections unchallenged. In South Africa at that time, Mbeki was getting more and more arrogant, deluded and just as stubborn. His organization got rid of him for all of us. Here Zuma IS wanted.

3. Zimbabwe was a one-man-show, South Africa is not.

4. While Zimbabwe's financial system was the textbook case of what not to do, South Africa was a textbook case of what to do exactly - The one country whose fundamentals were firm enough to withstand the global financial meltdown.

So, I don't see the similarities that people see.

If we do not keep our leader to high standards we WILL end-up like Zim. Zim end-up where they are becoz people excepted corrupt leaders. Now you want to do the same:confused:

In short, Zimbabwe collapsed because there was no rule of law. South Africa is a country of the rule of law.

What I am saying is that we should not panic. Let the law take its course. What we are doing here is that we want to cast away all legal procedures and take matters in to our hands. Conclude that someone is corrupt without any due process. That is exactly the recipe for disaster we should be avoiding. Have faith in our democracy and the legal system.

A court of law ruled that he had a general corrupt relationship with his financial adviser. Not the kind of person you want as a president, now is it?

I am serious. It just needs to be pruned. In particular, the police needs some improvement. The lower courts (with some questionable rulings) also need to be checked, but overall the system is in place and is working. It just needs to be improved.

The judge concerned released a statement refuting the reports that he had ever said there was a generally corrupt relationship.

Only problem is that in Africa practise takes many years; look at ZIM again. Maybe in Africa they just need to practise untill evolution ends.

How has Zuma not participated with the investigation?
In September 2006, Judge Msimang ruled against the NPA when he ruled that they proceed with the trial, but since they were not ready, he struck the case off the roll. The NPA was asking for a postponement not Zuma.
How could they have not been ready when they had been investigating him since 2003.
They eventually recharged him, but he challenge that indictment in court and was Judge Nicholson ruled in his favour. Instead of giving Zuma an opportunity to make representations the NPA decided to appeal the decision. Again who is causing the delay?
The SCA has ruled in their favour and Zuma is rightly so apealling the ruling with the highest court. In the meantime they are taking his representations. What's really going on here? Couldn't they have given the opportunity to make these represetations after judge Nicholson ruling?

In the meantime the trial by media and innuendo is continuing and the NPA is getting all the mileage it desires from this 'trial'.

Before Mandela came into power, people were very apprehensive about him. Before 5 years were over everyone was eating from his hand.

When Mandela was about to go and Mbeki was about to take office, people were apprehensive that he wouldn't be able to pull it off. But they speak fondly of him now.

In the same way, people are apprehensive about Zuma. I personally see that Zuma will be at least 4 times better than Mbeki, because he is not as stubborn and aloof as Mbeki. The ANC under Zuma will be a better ANC, without all the self-serving cancer which has now joined COPE.
 
Zuma not stubborn? Umm he is fighting until the end to seize power in SA even though he should step down and hand over the reigns of the country to someone who is not in trouble with the law.
