My gran has this laptop and I want to buy it from her...
What would be a fair price for it?

THanks

Hi Pooky

The price would depend on A) the specs and B) the age / condition.

The nx7010 model is about 5 years old now. I had 2 of them and they cost R15900 new in 2004.

You can still find them for sale around the R2500 mark, these are 1280x800 screens and have 80GB HDD, 1GB RAM and are 1.5-1.7 GHZ CPU's.

So, if the specs are similar to the above, then R2000 is a fair price, if the specs are lower, then around R1700 is OK.

Hope it helps!

My one has 512mb of ram, a 1600 Pentium m processor and a 40gig hard drive...

What should the price be?

Also can it be upgraded?

Hmmm... for that spec, around R1600.... but give your gran R1800. :)

Upgrades... yes, RAM (DDR1 333MHZ) the "easiest". CPU hard to find. HDD up to 200GB IDE.

Prepare to pay R500 - R700 for 1GB RAM tho.

Woah that's a lot for RAM. :(

I will probably notice quite a big speed difference... How much can I put in?

You might find some cheaper 2nd hand... max is 2GB, 1GB per slot.

Runs Windows 7 (non aero) quite nicely with 1GB RAM by the way. Graphics card the only real problem... XP will fly tho'.

P.S... If you thought that was a lot for RAM, how does R5900 for a replacement motherboard grab ya?

OR

R2700 for a replacement screen!

Got one of these lying around but the touch pad doesn't work. If you ever looking for spares let me know.

Got one as well. Thought it died after I spilled a brandy and coke all over it. Then it came back to life and has worked ever since (slight damage in the bottom of the screen where the LCD seems to have sucked up some brandy/coke...)

Was a rock solid workhorse for me although spec wise its now a bit dated. I would say R1800 is about right.

333 RAM is expensive. I may have some sitting in my cupboard if you want it?

There is a thing that I screwed off on the bottom of the computer that said RAM. In it there is 256mb DDR333 but just one not two...

Does this mean I only have one slot?

LOL.....the 2nd RAM DIMM is most probably underneath the one you are seeing.

Just look closer, or take the first one out.

Otherwise you got conned. :p

Nonono... there ARE two slots... one under the panel on the bottom and the other is actually UNDER the keyboard!

You need to turn the notebook upside down and look carefully on the bottom for little screws with a "rectangle and dots" stamp next to it. These are the screws to release the keyboard. Remove these.. then turn the laptop over again... along the top of the function keys you will see four little plastic rectangles... these you slide carefully down.

You can now lift the keyboard up. Do it slownly and lift the top first. the bottom is connected to the motherboard via a ribbon cable.

Once you have lifted the keyboard, you will see the other RAM slot on the right.

Here is where you pop in the 2nd chip.

Hope this helps!
