HP ProLiant MicroServer

Support for H.265/HVEC is only from the GT960 onwards, and the GT960 does not come in LP ...
Moving to H265/HVEC will probably also include me ditching the N54L for a custom build server.

Noob question, but I have a 7750 LP wasting away. Will it work for decoding H.265 files? How do I go about testing it?
I have a NL54 running Plex.

:wtf: does this mean though?
The Samsung 750 EVO may be a client-only drive, but it leaves us wanting it as a consumer drive. The combination of great performance and low cost is merely jaw-dropping!

No idea, but I've done a fair amount of research on this drive and its the best "low cost" SDD around.

Obviously I'd rather have the EVO 850, but I can't justify the R500 extra for something that's gonna sit in a NAS/download box.

I'll give it a go and let you know.... I need something that doesn't have much in terms of moving parts, I want to put it near a sub/speakers

Going to replace the PS3 with the server

Should be fine. I have a ocz ssd running esxi and 2 small vms for about a year now. It will probably wear out eventually, but that's home IT so not a big stress.

Running plex because of having a Roku 3 as player

Adding the GPU won't help you at all, most modern formats will direct play on the Roku and other codecs won't be a issue on the MicroServer CPU, only the modern codecs like H.265 won't work.

Ok, thanks for sharing your knowledge on the subject.

Can anyone recommend a decent "reasonably priced" ssd drive for the server? I don't think I'll need more than 128gb... it'll run windows and various download management programs...and kodi... all storage is off system.

Ages ago I bought a 60GB for Windows and Kodi, and no space issues!

Oh you have it in the 3.5 Bay? I don't know if I'd trust it to stay seated.

I plugged mine in too; it's so light that the only way it'll fall out is if you drop the server or bump it with huge force.

Then you'll have issues ....
