HP ProLiant MicroServer

My links above worked fine.

OS HDD moved to 5.25" bay. Default 2GB RAM supplied was Samsung (was expecting Kingston). Was going to add another 2GB, but supplier out of stock so went with a 4GB stick of Kingston (KVR1333D3N9/4G). Running Memtest with 6GB RAM now. HDD space 5.250 TB. To be upgraded when HDD prices drop :erm:

ok so i got it working now
no idea how tho
but i think logging in with putty first and then trying to connect i managed to get it working
will try again later this evening

Do you have to log in, into windows? I find that if you don't use a password log in on windows, Linux doesn't like it.

I saw the links thanks, just worried about flashing the wrong bios on the board. So the same links worked on the n40L, great. I'm going to add a DAS to my microserver, I see there's a 8 bay one for R2.5k which can run eSata to the server :D

1) Is that the Best BIOS to use? is it the latest BIOS that is hacked?
because i have 3 available now, the russian one, the one from "TheBay", and now yours.

2) can you flash a version 1.2 onto a version 2.0, or is it like Apple and you cant go back?

3) you should put one of those hp keys on your keyring, so if you lose it, you only lose 1. ;)

It's working for me. Before the flash it was official version 041. After the flash it is still on 041 except it unhides the Chipset option where you are apparently supposed to set SATA IDE Combined Mode to Disabled.

I'm pretty sure you can since the official HP BIOS update tool did not have a problem flashing the "modded" BIOS i.e. you just replace the official one with the "moddded" one. Had no checksum issues ect

you should put one of those hp keys on your keyring, so if you lose it, you only lose 1. ;)

Will do :D

Hehe my n40L arrived today. Looking forward to a nice setup session this weekend so I can get my home enviro humming.

HP should sponsor something for MyBB - this thread must have sold a lot of Microservers.

You should see some of the other Microserver threads across the interwebs, HP quite inadvertently started a cult following - as ramone would say"he is so accidentally cool" - that is exactly what happened to this little monster.

Hi

So I have spent so much time with my micro server and still not working 100%.
Windows wont install, I get the "please insert the cd/dvd drivers", I have tried putting a cd rom and and all, but still no go. I have now got Ubuntu running, with XBMC on it. The problem now is that my Nvidia GT210 does not give out any sound, could any help with either getting WIndows 7 working or my sound?

This is a great forum!

Have you selected the sound output device?

Get hold of openelec. There is only minor (very minor) tweaking needed to get the HDMI working.

Arb question.

I got windows home server 2011 running with sickbeard and sabnzb. Now my issue is that both sickbeard and sabnzb only start up with shortcuts in the startup folder, so it means I have to actually login, either remotely or local. Any ideas on how to make them actually part of the servers startup not user? Been a while since I actually fiddled.

Probably need to find some way to configure them to be windows services.
