HTC DESIRE HD

So, I like, most others now have the little bundle of joy that is the DHD :-)

One slight ... challenge ... that I am having, is MMS. I cannot send or receive MMS messages. If I try send one, after a while I get a General network failure message and when trying to download one I get message can't be downloaded. I'm on Vodacom and the MMS settings come pre-loaded. I have checked the settings and they are definitely correct. I had also done the usual thing of trying to send one first, switching phone off and on etc etc. Perhaps its just me, but has anyone else experienced similar problems with MMS on this phone?

Just thought I would let you know what fixed this in the end. It was the proxy settings of the Vodacom MMS access point. For some very strange reason it didn't like the default 196.6.128.13 setting. I specifically had to fill in the full 3 digits 196.006.128.013. After that I was able to send and receive MMSes fine :)

Hi Guys,

Been following this thread for quite some time now. Thanks for the help in swaying me towards this monster. Applied for it via telephone last Tuesday and received the phone at 9am Friday morning. Considering that Thursday was a public holiday that is awesome service from MTN Retentions. I just cant seem to stop playing Angry Birds. Highly addictive and i have killed my battery on multiple occasions with this game. For those of you that are married, how do you pry the phone out of your wife's hands? Mines hates touch screen phones, well, until last Friday i guess. :)

Thats really fast! At first, I ordered mine from Virgin Mobile on 30 November from their website since everyone else kept telling me there's no stock, the truck was stolen, etc.
They claim on their website it will take 7 to 10 days to arrive, then when I called to find out where's my phone they claimed its 7 to 10 days from the 6th December, which was the day they approved the contract.
Then when I called yet again after the public holiday on the 16th they were not certain when it would get delivered, then when I started shouting they told me the couriers are on holiday until next year!

So I cancelled that contract, and phoned all the Vodashops the same day until I found one that had stock, drove out to Gateway and it took me 20 minutes to get my phone :)

I still received a sms today from Virgin Mobile stating that I will get my phone next year via courier.

Seriously Virgin Mobile, if you're reading this, sort out your web store, your couriers and your warehouse. I guess you really didn't want my R320+ per month :wtf: I can only imagine how bad the rest of your service would have been if I got stuck in a 2 year contract with you idiots.

Where do you access these settings? I tried Looking but couldn't find it.

Guys seriously looking at this phone, would you suggest one waits for the Nexus S instead?
Also is the battery life the only negative thing about this phone so far?

Thanks

Its the only negative I've encountered.. no other complaints, but it is quite a major one, I charge my phone overnight and by 6pm with not all that much use its dead

I am not a fan of Samsung plastic phones. That is all.

Interesting thanks that's surely a problem

All depends how "heavy" you use it. I've had mine on standby now for more than three days (little test I wanted to do), but didn't play Angry Birds & left My BB, Facebook & Twitter alone for a bit. Just phone calls, sms & email.

So....my conclusion is....if you want to use if for email, phone calls & sms, it will definitely last longer than a day. Start "playing" with it & it's like my old iPhone - the battery drains at a rapid rate. ;)

If you’re a Desire HD or Desire Z user in Europe, look out for a general system update that we’ve just started rolling out to make your mobile experience even better. It’s quite a large download so we’d advise using a Wi-Fi connection when you come to install it. Go to Settings, About Phone, System Software Updates to check for the update.

hmm only europe though? to me it sounds like a sense update to me, what u guys think?

Thanks Kingrob, I take it you all are on a data plan with this phone?

Yup. You need to be, otherwise the phone won't be of much use, or you'll be paying a huge monthly bill.

I'm on a 600MB data plan at the mo.....will see how it goes.

Cheers!

Just changed my settings and then tested it with a mms from Vodacom to MTN. Worked perfectly.

I went to Autopage in the Pavilion this past Tuesday to pick up my Desire HD. The lady opened the box (this seems to be standard policy with Autopage) and then tried to switch it on. The phone (naturally) wouldn't come on due to the plastic film surrounding the battery. She then tried to open the battery cover, to no avail. I asked her to leave it as I would take it home and do that. She ignored me, and passed the phone onto one of her colleagues who (you guessed it), also couldn't open the cover. He then broke the top cover of the phone, which covers the SD and sim card slots. Needless to say, I was quite pissed off. They have ordered a new phone for me, so I am waiting for it.

There are no pills for stupidity. She shouldn't be selling phones.
