Is it possible to enable delivery reports on this phone?
So used to not having them on the iphone..

Also, anyone know how many months your airtime rolls over for on the top up packages?

Go into the messaging app, then 'Menu' > 'Settings' and under SMS settings tick 'Delivery Reports'. Note that you won't get a separate delivery message, but rather little notification icon next to the message once it's delivered.

I'd advise to get a proper car holder as well ;)

1. Install HTC Sync. I downloaded and installed the latest version from here, but a slightly older version can also be accessed from your phone's SD card if you choose the connection type as 'Disk drive' when connecting the USB cable.

2. Go to this xda-developers.com thread and download the Brut Google Maps (it's a modded ver.) I downloaded the "maps4.6.0.4686-brut-renamed-tagged.apk" (it's tagged as "probably not usable - random ANRs" [App Not Responding?], but I haven't seen any problems with it yet).

3. Once downloaded, make sure your phone's connection type is set to "HTC Sync", and that it is visible in the PC's HTC Sync app (will probably take a little while the first time to install the drivers). You'll use this to install the Brut Google Maps

4. In the HTC Sync app, click on "Application installer", and browse for the .APK file you downloaded. Complete the install process on your phone.

5. If you downloaded the "brut-renamed-tagged" version, you should now see 3 new apps in the phone's apps menu with [brut] appended on the name and / or as part of the icon, namely: "Latitude [brut]", "Maps [brut]" and "Navigation" (with "BRUT" in red overlayed on the icon).

6. Load "Maps [brut]", and "Search Maps" for your destination. If successful, you should see one of those Google Place Markers with the address (mine shows a red A with the address bubble above it).

7. Touch the address bubble above the marker, and it will load the marker / place info screen.

8. In the row of icons at the top, touch the right-turn arrow and select the navigation mode - e.g. "Driving Navigation".

9. It will the say "Getting driving directions", and will hopefully take only a couple of seconds to calculate your route (I previously had the issue of it hanging when I tried the other way of going directly through the modded Navigation app).

10. Proceed to to drive [or walk :)] to your destination. (I suggest getting a friend to drive you while you play with the app - it can be quite distracting at first).

11. One of the cool things is the integrated Street View - it should be accessible by touching the person icon on the bottom right (if not immediately visible, try advancing in your route directions by one or two points first).

Note that this requires a working data connection, so if you're using the phone's data connection (3G etc.), it's probably best to have a data bundle. Supposedly the Brut mod allows it to cache data locally, but I have seen that it sometimes reloads from scratch (a bug?).

You could possibly try and pre-cache the data by 'flying' over the route you want to take before you leave home (and thereby take advantage of your WiFi / ADSL connection, if you have one).

Taking all the above in to account, I have still bought the premium navigation license for SA and surrounding areas. In my view, it's still worth it for now (properly pre-cached / locally stored maps; better navigation voices; route preview; better routing and maps; not in beta). Only down-side is the lack of good POIs in the Premium Navigation App (who to blame - Route 66 or Tele Atlas?).

I have installe that now as well, but the brut maps and navigation crashes very often. Do you have the same problem? Any Idea why?

Just for everyone's information I have been bump charging my phone (charge it at night even if it's nowhere near empty) and my battery life has improved quite nicely.
 
I'm having problems when typing emails or sms'es...i would be typing & the cursor will just jump back to the top, or any other random area.

I've recalibrated the screen, but makes no difference & annoying as hell!

Maybe thats what the 2.2.1 update fixes?

And then wipe everything that has been typed in after that...? I get it as well sometimes but it only just to the front of the word that I'm busy typing (especially when I type on the LHS of the keyboard)

Yeah I read an article about the batteries and android. Seems that bump charging gives good resluts but it may chow the life of the battery a bit long term. I'm not bothered though.
 
Read something interesting on the Samsung Froyo update thread.... apparently there is a bug that rapes your battery when using wifi & phone is on standby.

I use wifi all the time, which now explains my ultra crappy battery life.

Few Questions: The current map apps are quite rubbish what are some good ones up for purchase (with lifetime subscription) all my gps locks say they have a 1200m+- accuracy to my current location and its like some okes house 2blocks away from me.

how do i get all of my facebook contacts into my the standard android contacts app, i have them under people but i would like to synch them to my contacts aswell (since with contacts you can have multiple contacts numbers per person)

HTCSense.com is crap so far its not locking on my phone or working. same for you guys?

any other cool apps you recommend? So far i got winamp beta, whatsapp, mxit, angrybirds, myBB app, and engadget's app. early days tho but i am loving this device! going to compare it to my mates SGS tonight!

Where would you recommend getting a pouch for the desire hd from? Expansys or Take 2 UK? Delivery time is the most important.

Ok, I'll try to answer a few questions :

1. I purchased the Route 66 Nav app - R277 for lifetime licence. You can wait for Google to finally release full nav for SA, or see if there is something else out there. Personally I'm very very happy with Route 66 Nav.

2. Facebook contacts should be imported in your contacts list when you do the initial setup of your phone and provide your Facebook login details. If not, you can set up sync of your FB contacts with normal contacts. Settings > Accounts & Sync.

3. HTCSense is completely overloaded, me thinks. Keep on trying, till HTC sorts it out.

4. Got most of the apps you have + Colornote (Evernote is perhaps better), Google Skymap is very cool, Wifi Analyzer, etc.
