HTC DESIRE HD

Just bought mine. R4999 from JHB Duty Free. Happy enough with that.

Was going to upgrade on MTN 200 @R319/m. Not sure what do do with contract now. Might upgrade to something someone wants then sell it. If you're on MTN and want a new phone for a decent price and full warranty, let me know.

Now to start playing :D

this is hands down the best phone I've ever had...considering I've upgraded from a sony ericsson c902,that's not saying much

Just ordered a car charger, wall charger and 3 micro-USB cables for R77 off of ebay.

Went to various stores, and they only had Nokia and Blackberry stuff - IIRC, the Nokia Micro USB cable was R399, the Blackberry Micro-USB car charger was R325 or something similiar.

Micro MicroUSB Cables

I'm looking for a very short cable. <1".

My GF got one with her 3G modem, but it's MiniUSB. Looking for something similar in MicroUSB so I can carry it around for charging on the go.

Haven't seen these in local shops and Google throws too many random sites to trawl through...

Yip... would prefer leather - but I just want something simple to protect my phone when in my pocket... and it needs to be easily removable so I can quickly clip the phone into the car cradle.

Something someone might find handy - I bought a Bodyglove Micro-USB charger from what I think was a Vodashop for less than R100...

Apparently there is a ~30% inefficiency barrier, so you'll get 30% of the 1500mAh into whatever you're charging. At ~20USD, it's not a bad option to string your phone out for a while...

It's a 1,000mA - the same as the HTC chargers, I believe - so it's sufficient to keep the battery charged even with GPS and data connection running. I had a 1,500mA before, which worked quite nicely, but the connectors were crappy. The Bodyglove is much, much better quality.
 
Hmmm ... I did something "interesting" ...
I have a custom rom installed ... and I started messing with the A2SD+ stuff which moves your apps and cache to a hidden EXT partition on your MicroSD ...
That did not go well ... :) ... Still trying to figure out what I stuffed up ...
The phone boots up into the logo and just stops there ...

Now lets see if I can pull off a restore ...

Read on XDA or somewhere that when a phone can take 1000mA but the charger can only give 500mA, the charger gets quite hot. It's running at near capacity or at capacity for extended periods as the phone tries to suck it dry.

Sounds reasonable. I've also heard that 500mA can be better for battery life as it's less stressful on the cells... SO, not sure what to believe.

The Scosche thing above looks like it's a better option than replacement batteries. Will last onto other phones/devices that require USB to charge. I'm too damn busy at work to play with the phone, so doubt I'll need these gadgets yet. Just scouting about for when I do :)

Ok - thats what I ordered as well - there was a 500mA, 700mA and 1,000mA.

I have a charger that currently puts out 500mA in my car - it doesn't seem to be able to charge the phone when using the GPS... the battery still drains, slowly.

I also saw a solar charger :)

A PC's USB port only supplies 500mA - next time your phone's run down completely, try recharging off that. Be prepared for about a 7 hour wait, though. The phone regulates the input - you can stick it on a 3,000mA charger (in theory) and it will only draw 1,000mA...

Cool. My equivalent of the BodyGlove comes from HiFi Corp and puts out 1500mA. Was hesitant to use it, but guess the phone can deal with it.

On that note, does a USB/eSATA combo port put out more power than standard USB2.0? I use that with the phone. Googling this just gives me a pile of articles on how USB3.0 is wiping the floor with eSATA.
