HTC DESIRE HD

Ok, so I got tired of the crappy mail app & decided to run all my different mail accounts through Gmail - and now I get push email for all my accounts! :)

So here's what I did :

1. Opened up Gmail in my web browser and added my Hotmail and Vodamail accounts.
2. Deleted all the mail accounts from my Desire HD's Mail app and removed the icon from my home screen.
3. Downloaded the "Gmail Unread Count" widget from the Market and added the widget to my home screen (don't worry, it looks exactly like an icon and only you will know it's actually a widget). Now it will show a little red number with the amount of all unread Gmail & all other account messages.
4. Updated my Gmail app via the market, now it gives me the option to compose a new message from any of my mail accounts, not just my default Gmail account.

Done!

And it works a real treat. The nice thing is that you can use Gmail's SMTP servers to send your messages (which is lightning fast), but it still appears as if it was sent via your own mail account.

So now I FINALLY have a fantastic push mail system running on my Desire HD. :)

kingrob: how did u add those other email accounts to your gmail?? i want to do the same thing for my uct address...please advise!!

You must login to Gmail on your pc & add it under settings. Cant do it on your phone.

i get around 1 to 1.5 days of battery life, suits me fine!

Well, during the day I'm getting full HSDPA signal (definitely helps a lot if you're working at Vodacom :p) and my phone lasts SO much longer. Also getting my 1 to 1.5 days.

where exactly under settings??i'm not exactly sure what to do...pls can u give me exact details, step by step...much appreciated :)

as for the whole battery life thing, i've taken some of ur advice...have not seen any significant improvements as yet...i think the main culprit is the cell antenna...when im on campus, the signal is very weak so it almost always switches to another network...do u know if it harms the battery if u leave the phone plugged in after it's finished charging???(ie when the notification light turns green???)...the whole battery life thing is not really a big issue for me...my mate has a BB 9300 n he says he needs to charge everyday as well

I get about half a day :(

But Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, background Data and HSDPA etc is always on - and I use it as a remote for my AV receiver.

Guys, i have been using a makeshift leather pouch that my aunt made me for my phone but its flimsy and stuff

where can i buy a proper pouch and screen protector? Almost 3 months with this phone and i have just one scratch on the aluminium next to the power button.

see now this sends me running for the hills....

(towards the SE Arc... :D )
So keep on running and please never come back :D

Please don't get the DHD, I'm begging you. I don't think I could stand you moaning about battery life every day in this thread.

Finally read what the solution to my market problem was. Needed to format my SD card. Hope it works.

I comfortably get 1 day's use from this monster. Even with playing whole day. I was without wifi for a few days and battery almost lasted 3 days!

That's a weird one.

I couldn't update my apps today, so I just gave it a few minutes and then it started downloading the updates.

may I ask what you do on your phone on a daily basis? and how much of it?

I see the baby version of the Arc is out... the Neo.... hmmm! :)

OK, tricky one, but here goes:
1. For the record, live wallpaper is off, screen brightness is set to auto
2. Mobile data is off, using GSM only, all other drainers are also off such as Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc

Now for the usage:
1. Catch up on Twitter, Facebook, etc for around 30 mins in the mornin using Wifi
2. Listen to bit of Online Radio using the "TuneIn" Radio app
3. Wifi goes on again when I get to work, sometimes it stays on for a couple of hours cos I forget about it, but I switch it off whenever I remember!
4. Use a bit of Google Maps / Street View
5. And the usual messing about with the fone whenever I get the chance, mostly on the internet, also watching videos, updating weather, etc
6. I hardly get / make calls, so maybe this is the biggest saver
7. I use friend stream a lot, Wifi is always on for this
8. In the evenings, kids want me to show em a few things on the phone, usually involves the talking tomcat app :)
9. Spend a bit of time reading e-books as well

and yeah... thats about it, I dont take photos / videos everyday or use GPS all the time, only do this when the need arises...

I got a lovely leather pouch from Expansys via BidorBuy... link below:
http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/31975060/HTC_Desire_HD_Pouch_PO_S550.html

Also bought a Martin Fields screen protector from www.martinfields.com

The leather pouch got to me within 10 working days, the screen protector had some issues... as it was being shipped from Hong Kong.
The first time I ordered it, nothing came for 4 weeks, so I sent them an email. Without any fuss they sent another one and I got it two days ago... still havent put it on the phone as yet :P

Yup, that leather pouch is great. I just wish it cleaned the screen a bit more when you put it in and.take it out. A softer material inside would have probably achieved this but still, it's R95 and its an HTC leather pouch. I'm very happy with it.

My order from expansys took just under a month but I did order extra stuff. The official HTC car charger was one of the best buys. It charges so quickly.
