HTC One X

HTC One's design choices, particularly why the smaller capacity battery.

The most controversial quote of the day came when HTC's vice president of phone strategy Bjorn Kilburn said that the company had rejected models with giant 3000mAh batteries similar to the one attached to the Motorola Razr Maxx.
Kilburn said consumer research had shown that buyers prefer smartphones between about 8mm and 10mm in thickness nowadays. A strapping, strap-on battery threatened to bust that limit.
"We experimented with putting in a lot more battery, making the device thicker, but consumers don't want to buy it," Kilburn said. "So we spent a lot of time finding other ways [to maximize battery life] than the brute force approach."

So it seems Vodacom is aiming to have the One X in stores by the first week of (Edit supposed to be June) May.... I'm impatient, so I'm just gonna get me the Samsung Galaxy Note....

lol .... I rather like the Galaxy Range, so it has a 1.4ghz dual core instead of a 1.5ghz quad .... no biggie.

btw... remember when Quad on PC came out? There weren't many apps that could utilize all four cores for a while..... I suspect it will be the same with android apps...

EDIT: apologies .. One X expected first week of June, not May!

I'm not excited about the processor (only).

Even the one s is worth the wait, and is a better faster phone than the note. Remember, processors aren't created equal. In fact the dualcore one s is faster than the quadcore one x by most accounts.

Also the note is old tech since it's basically a galaxy s2.

Anyway I'm biased coz i hate Samsung. That stupid home button and touch wiz. Great hardware otherwise.

got mine yesterday (white, had a colleague get it for me in london). in love with it.

sense is very smooth. although i've already rooted it, i could likely stay on the stock rom for some time.

Battery life. Let us know

as you can imagine with a new toy i am playing with it all the timedidn't charge it properly over night so will be difficult to tell today. but i'll update.

One thing I would like to know is how well you can view a PDF file on it, particularly magazines and books in the desktop format ( no mobile reflow.) The display resolution for this is similar to the Ipad 2 (not that I have experience with one, I could not even send a file by bluetooth from my Nokia phone to it) , except for the display size.

So in the smaller display (but higher pixel density) how is the sharpness in Fit Page to screen mode? When it is in landscape mode with Fit to Width, do you need to zoom in further to read text without strain? Would it be better on a 7" screen or 10" screen with the lower DPI?

I wanted to get the mid range Desire S which was R89/ month and outlay +-R250-R300/month for a tablet PC, but MTN have not honored my application due to lack of stock. Trying to figure is the 4.7" screen on the HTC One X will be the all in one device for me instead.

I can read a Zinio mag quite comfortably in landscape. Moving from a Nexus One to this is quite a jump as I just never read Zinio on that.

That said, I still prefer to read stuff on my tablet.

Interestingly I received the OTA update to 1.28 yesterday. Wasn't expecting that on MTN.

Another thing I like is how I can use both thumbs to type like I do on my work blackberry. And the predictive text is pretty good in the respect that it almost always picks up the word I wanted to type.
