HTC Touch Diamond

Thanks for the link phenom: that's something I could definitely use. I was lying on my side while using the browser the other evening & found it very annoying that the display automatically switched to landscape which was not what I needed. I'll load it later & let u know what I think, soon as I can get the days tasks done here at the office toady.
Apart from the Advanced Config utility I got from XDA developers & Handymap AI Gold GPS application, I haven't loaded any other apps yet. Gsen will be the third. Wish the Diamond had some kind of photo editing functionality buit-in tho - guess I'll just find a 3rd party app. The TouchFlo music app also sucks.

Ok so I didnt get the iPhone yet so I decided to open this little baby.
Stunning little device!!!
Adicted to that ball game!!:p

As per my unanswered question that was posed yesterday or the day before - what do you do for a living and how many phones do you buy a month?

Any idea when the Touch Pro will hit our stores? Also is the Diamond available on contracts? I am due for a upgrade next month sometime and thinking of either the Diamond, Touch Pro or the iPhone 3G.....Wonder if the iPhone will be available on contracts?

Nashua mobile has the Diamond on contract yes, pay in R1699-00 on procall 120... I'm waiting for the Touch pro... or even the N96 Nokia. iPhone 3G wouldn't bother, so over rated it's frightening...IMO...

Sorry, just been too busy to fiddle with the TD, so can't give any decent feedback.

Random top-of-mind comments:

PLUS

* Display is stunning! 480x640. (However, all the display-PDA-on-PC-screen apps are twice the size (SOTI Pocket Plus and MyMobiler)) on PC.
* TouchFlo 3D is pretty cool, though I wish it peformed better. I seldom send SMSs so I can get by for days without using the stylus.
* GPS with definable com port. GPS acquires satellites very quickly.
* Magnetic stylus latch
* Opera browser is actually usable - double tap to zoom in on web page.
* I like the control under TouchFlo 3D - eg, volume buttons on left easily set phone and device volume; simply slide down to Vibrate or Silent.
* It's much prettier in the flesh than in pics.
* Connect to PC in either activesync or HDD mode (faster)
* All the connectvity I need in SA: 3G, wifi, 3G (but no 3G in USA - big minus).
* No button clutter - easy control. Minimalist design.
* Seems to have better voicedial recognition than Kaiser.

MINUS

* Battery life aint great.
* No 3G support in USA (I travel there quite often and need 3G ... anyone got any news on the USA model, or possible ROM hack/update to support USA 3G?)
* When creating a new SMS using the Keyboard (in WM6.1), typing a Contact name doesn't recognise and prompt for the Contact name/number. Getting tooltip/promt for a Contacts number using the Compact QWERTY and Full QWERTY keyboard works fine. This is irritating as I prefer the Keyboard for inputs because the other keyboards take up too much screen space, blotting out the fields on lower half of display.
* Only 4GB internal storage and no microSD slot.
* Tinny speaker/sound.
* Stoopid HTC audio/USB combo port. Should have a std 3.5 mini-jack.
* Haven't found a way to customise reminder sounds in TouchFlo.

I don't think the signal strength reporting is accurate - seems to under-report. Where the Kaiser shows 2 bars, the TD shows 1 bar, but it holds the signal better -- in my regular seat in family room the Kaiser would lose signal every few minutes, whereas TD holds the signal. In my cottage/office the Kaiser could not connect to the house wifi, but the TD does, and stays up.

I installed all my SPB apps (Mobile Shell, POcket Plus, Phone Suite, Time, GPRS Monitor, Imageer, Backup) but have decided to revert to TouchFlo 3D for stylus-less ease of use. Also now using MyMobileR for on-PC display (no skin yet).

Overall, I really really like the TD. The only real bummer is no 3G in USA - this will force me to eventually get something else.

Lol you actually posting something useful for a change...
I kinda messed up my home page menu (the one with the time), well all the inquisitive fingers in the department did, how do I get it back? I tried everything even a master reset.

Buck

Thr Touch Pro would only be out in South Africa in Sep /Oct 2008. I also hope the phone would offer in contract with little pay in.

how much did you people pay for this phone? ... cash price ... no contract?

Im not sure what it goes for, probably 8K...

I have a question, is this phone using the 4GB internal memory when browsing the net? I was on Facebook for 5 min and I got an "out of memory" error, kinda wierd when a phone has 4GB internal memory.
But then I noticed that theres 2 memory types, internal and phone memory...?
Why would they do this? Why not just use 4GB all together. Its kinda kinda just having a 4GB memory card.
Nokia and SE dont do this on their 4/8GB phones....

Its a Touch Diamond with a keyboard, so Ill add on another R800 over the Diamond.

Last I asked, I was quoted R6855 by Leaf.

The phone has 4GB of internal storage that is used simlarly to the hard disk in your PC - it has 192 MB RAM for running programs/browsing and whatnot.
