HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

If anyones interested the cheapest i've found, without getting USA 1 camera telco branded models, is thru Hongkong resellers working Australia Ebay(with 99%+ positive feedback)
TyTN II...........= AUD$819 = R4832
Shipping to S.A = AUD$80 = R472

Total = R5304

If i get nailed on Vat add R680+R25 clearance fee

One other cheaper place but too suspect looking for me was
www.htcdirect.co.uk
Finding someone with cheaper freight rates would lower the price as the seller is definatly making on the freight but end result is still ok i believe.
They also work out to be slightly cheaper than using expansys HK direct as their no doubt bulk buying & getting discounts.

Leaf = R7600??
exactmall = R8500

Not a hard choice to push the buy button o/seas giving the extremly competitive choices locally/sarcasm off

1. Maybe it will help if you change the alarm tone.

2. I have had no trouble there. Please be more specific.

3. If you set it to GSM only it will not use 3G. You might try to select "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)" as the band to use. This will probably restrict the number of frequencies the phone searches for. This setting is all that is needed for South Africa anyway.

4. It shouldn't result in any costs but I personally think it does impact on battery life. There is a utility out here called kaisertweak that I use. You can define the period after which an unused GPRS connection will automatically be closed. You can of course terminate the connection manually in the connection manager.

Hi Tallboy, thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

1. I have changed the tone. Yet the time it takes to repeat is long (that said it could be user ignorance for not discovering the correct setting.), I am not able to use my own tones and the snooze function is not ideal for an alarm for waking up.

2.1 The computer does not find the phone as a modem under device manager. I suspect I need to load driver but my cd that came with the phone is bust.
2.2 Even using bluetooth it does not work. Here I suspect its because I don;t have the correct access point settings and vodacom was not of much help when I requested settings. This might be the cause of it not working with USB aswell.

3. Any app the switch bands between GSM and auto easily? If I understand you correctly auto uses more batery life.

4. Thanks, I will go and have a look.

Thanks for your help

Hi Thor

If you are having problems with the network settings, the Leaf site, Support, Upgrade has the cab settings for all the networks.

I'm still waiting for the damn price to come down, bet its up just for xmas...

For some free PPC stuff check out http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php

1. The phone isn't registered as a modem but as a network adapter. In my case "Windows Mobile-based Internet Sharing Device".

Got mine, gave up waiting. Which version of TomTom is everyone using, also what version of maps do you have?

Hmmmm if MTN are offering a contract that requires no payin, I may just have to try twist Vodas arm to provide the same...

I want this phone, but a R2500+ pay in is a bit steep if you ask me.

MTN's got a special on at the moment(ProCall) - no upfront pay in, it's added over the 24 month period.

i ported from vodacom to mtn for this deal and i've got no regrets.

I bought mine cash, wish I'd bought it before signing into another contract though :(

Now that I've owned both, to everyone thats considering, the Tytn II is WAY better than the Nokia E90.

Try and see if you can use IE on the phone first to verify that you have the correct settings. If you can browse there, then the problem is with the drivers connecting to your pc. I did read somewhere that you have to make some changes when using the phone as a modem through bluetooth, but can't remember where.

TomTom cost R700-R800 for each map update. Map updates with Handymap is free twice a year for lifetime. Therefore TomTom costs more. :D
But don't the handymap maps have to be downloaded per town. All I got was the gauteng maps. Does that mean that if I go to Durban, I have to buy the durban maps, or are all maps included?
Something I just remembered on what put me off most by handymap, was that searching for destinations required the use of the stylus (very small selections), whereas tomtom has big buttons that you can use with your fingers in the car. I'm still confused in which to buy.
Tomtom 7 is coming out here in march. Looks very good.

To everyone that has this pda, can you check if the key pad below the screen is/seems loose? Mine does, and I'd like to know if its normal. Thanks

Does anyone know where to download Garmin Mobile XT for WM? I want to use it with Tracks4Africa, I can find the Symbian one on Garmin's site, but not the one for WM?
