We are expecting delivery in the next day or so.

Many thanks MTNDD!

Am I right in saying that the prices should now be available through the MTN Service Centres? If the phones are to be available to the warehouse in the next few days then they should be available in the stores next week?

Appreciate it! :D

On the other hand if I really think about it, I can just as well go for the K-Jam. It's smaller with all the same features. It doesn't have 3G or HSDPA but who cares, I don't have 3G or HSDPA coverage anyway. And it doesn't look like MTN is going to do anything about it in the near future.

The K-Jam is free and I'm almost 100% sure that there will be a pay-in of about R1000 on the TyTN/JASJAM.

I'm just waiting for the pricing. If the TyTN is free then I'll go for it. If I have to pay I'll go for the K-Jam.

I spoke to Richard Gardner at Head Office. He said that MTN will have the i-Mate Jasjam as well as the HTC TyTN. Funny that they are going to have both models. Exactly the same phone. I think the HTC one will be cheaper because i-Mate still add something for their branding.

He also said that it has been approved and that they are still waiting on the pricing. I should be available on the 11th of December.

Well, I really hope so.

@Piesang

I hope so for your sake as well

Which contract are you thinking about? The K-Jam is free on a Procall 150. So my guess will be that the HTC TYTN will go for anything from R1500 - R3000 on a procall 150 if we're lucky!!

Piesang,

The other difference, aside from 3G, between the K-Jam and the JasJam is that the JJ has a 400mhz processer in it, while the KJ only has a 200mhz processor in it. For example, Skype VOIP won't work properly on a 200mhz processor. The JasJam/TyTn design is also more optimised for one handed use, on the K-Jam it's not as easy to access your phone book to make a call.

Think carefully about what you want from the phone before you decide between the two. I've been waiting for the TyTn for almost 6 months now...

The OMAP 850 CPU is the equivalent to the Jasjar's 520Mhz CPU. I have a Jasjar at the moment. I don't think there is anything worst than that.

Not quite,

The performance of the two seems to be about on par, but the JasJar Processor has to deal with 4 times the pixels because of the higher resolution screen.

Anycase, I don't want to bicker about processor speeds. The K-Jam is a fantastic phone, there is no way you can be disappointed with it. I just want the 3G availability of the JasJam/TyTn, plus it's always cool to have the newest phone on the block:D

I agree, it's nice to have the latest phone. Like I said earlier, the 3G/HSDPA doesn't bother me because I don't have 3G/HSDPA coverage.

Yeah,

And with our cellular providers, it's not likely that they will expand their 3G coverage too much in the next 2 years of your contract.

The Jasjars CPU out performs the K-Jam any day of the week ... What ROM version do you have on the Jasjar? there are a couple of tweaks for the Jasjar
it has been known to suffer from memory leaks with earlier versions of the ROM. Mine is lightning quick .. even without running the CPU overclocking utility ....
the K-Jam's TI OMAP 195 Mhz processor leaves a sour taste in my mouth . it is a very nice entry level WM 5.0 device ..

Guys,

The only news I have is the following we'll be recieving the JASJAM hopefully in the next 10 days.

MTNDD

Still waiting...

If we could at least get a pricing structure out of MTN then we would be able to get to a shop and pre-order the damn thing. That is, if the prices are reasonable:cool:

I agree. If its too much then I know I can go and collect a K-Jam right now. But now we are waiting and waiting just to get a price.

I got a call from MTN headoffice this morning out of the blue telling me that they havent forgot about me and as soon as they have info for me on the pricing of the TyTN/Jasjam they will let me know. They say that they will hopefully have a answer for me by the 11th of December. I'll keep you guys up to date.

Settling for a K-Jam would be like getting a 318i BMW when you where looking to get an M3 ...
The TyTN is not a cheap device i suspect the chip in fee to quite a bit ..

well, look at it like this:

For an Nokia N93 on a procall 120 you pay +- R950 chip in fee. The retail value of the N93 is R7000, while you can now get a TyTn for about R7900.

Of course this is a very generalized (read inaccurate) way of calculating a chip in fee, when you do the math, you are still looking at R1850 chip in fee.

MTN, be gentle please!

And remember, vodacom asks R3500 on a talk500 contract!

I wud love to know how they work out the Chip in fee, What factors determine the price ... any ideas?????
I am shooting from the hip now ... Eg .. Nokia's pricing normally drops in the first month ... These boys pump out a new device every 2 weeks ..
