HUAWEI B315s LTE router discussion thread.

I must say, the "features" in the firmware on this device is sorely lacking. One cannot even see the devices attached via ethernet.

I think my antique Asus wifi router (which I am using as an AP) has more features with DD-WRT firmware. One day when I am bored, I may follow some of the suggestions above and use the b315 as a modem only and let the Asus do the dhcp/routing. The only thing that bugs me about that is that it will mean fairly long ethernet cables to the PCs in the study.

What a pleasure using LTE after sukkeling with adsl that couldn't reach 1Mb/s.

100m is a maximum cable lenght, probably more than enough.
Yes, Huawei makes feature-crippled routers.

The length as such isn't really the worry, but rather the extra cables running across the study and ceiling for the missus to complain about :D

As a matter of interest, wasn't the max cable length some silly number like 96m?

Not. Exactly 100m. It is in typical office environment with high noise and high reliability requirements. In home you can use even longer cable. You will get more dropped frames, line dropped to 100Mbps and cable quality would speak out... But don't worry, you can extend lenght even further if you put a switch/hub between. :)

Hi
I just got a Huawei B315s-936
Where can i get firmware for it?
I want to use afrihost data with it. But its as if it is locked. It keeps on jumping back to the mtn profile. Even though Afrihost is Mtn there is a APN difference.
Has anyone seen this problem?

Create new profile for Afrihost. When you finish 3-steps setup, the new profile becomes default.
I works on mine from Cell C.

Regarding update, there is online update on the menu. It says firmware is up to date. This is Huawei. Don't expect anything else in your case.

Any idea where I can get the firmware from? The router buggered up and I think it'd firmware related!

I have the B315s-22 Bought it from cell c
B315s-22
The frequency bands of the product are as follows.

LTE: Band 1/3/7/8/20/38
FDD 2100 MHz/1800 MHz/2600 MHz/900 MHz/800 MHz/TDD 2600 MHz

UMTS: Band 1/8 2100 MHz/900 MHz

GSM: Band 2/3/5/8 1900 MHz/1800 MHz/850 MHz/900 MHz

HUAWEI B315s-936 LTE
 LTE: Band 1/3/40/41
FDD 2100 MHz/1800 MHz TDD 2300MHz/2600 MHz
 UMTS: Band 1/8 2100 MHz/900 MHz
 GSM: Band 2/3/5/8 1900 MHz/1800 MHz/850 MHz/900 MHz

It seems to me that the b315s-22 does not have the 2300 Mhz band wich telkommobile uses for lte, but the B315s-936 has the 2300 MHz band i have the B315s-22 3g runs fine but no lte
can you guys please comment on this

Hi Guys

I just received my LTE Router on the R599 uncapped special, still waiting for the sim to be activated tho! I was wondering if anyone has got this device to work with unotelly, netfilx and hulu.

I have a Netgear DGN2200 which I would like to use as a repeater as well. How would I go about connecting this?

Any heads up will be great

I've got US netflix running by entering in a DNS from TVUnblock but I had to enter the DNS into the device I want to play netflix from, couldn't see a way to do it through the router. Attaching your netgear should help out, going to try attach my old Asus adsl router myself.

Thanks for the reply. I connected everything and tested Netflix, this works fine however Hulu is an issue on my Roku device. It does geo location lookup via google if im not mistaken. I was able to block them on my Netgear cant find it on the Huawei.

Need to find a way to hook up my sucky telkom netgear router. Anyone who has done this before please help!

Has anyone tested the gigabit feature on the B315?

Both computers are connected and showing 1.0Gbps, but I only get 100mbit network transfer speeds.
Has anyone managed to get full speeds?

Thanks

With this tool below it is possible to configure 315s to accept user supplied DNS. Whether manual DNS is really used I don't know, but Netflix users could test and post results. Good luck!

The same. Getting maximum from Fast Ethernet, but not more, even for a second. Fake Gigabit switch?

Ya, I got gatvol and just added a cheap 5 port gigabit switch. All is lekker now.
Pity the router isn't up to spec though...

No. Only directional antenna can help.

Yep, thats the problem, I have the antenna and no matter which way I face it, it sticks to 1 tower as that tower's signal is stronger than the ones around.
Is there a trick to get the antenna to go with another tower?
