HUAWEI B315s LTE router discussion thread.

Hey guys, can anyone help me on how to use the B315 as a modem and a TP-Link W8980 as the main router?
 
Long time user of (landlord's) B593, now need my own, but someone suggested the 315 might be cheaper new at Edgar's than the second hand price I have found (R1400) for the 593. Wondered from those who've used both which you prefer? I noticed this thread is much smaller :)

I don't use clever features much. I do need, at least potentially, external antenna(s) - (does it take them?) and to access Telkom (2300MHz) as well as MTN and Vodacom (1800MHz) so from the previous page it looks like I'd need the B315s-936. Is this generally the one Edgar's stock?

Edit: What matters most to me is the ability to make the most of a very low signal as I'll be living right on the edge of 4G access. I was really happy with the 593 in this regard - is the 315 better/worse?

I can't compare both, but I had B683 (3G), ZTE MF-283 and B315s. They all perform the same in terms of radio sensitivity. Typically more than 3dB better than typical USB dongles. As for external antenna I didn't do tests (yet), but Telkom installs many on the unlimited LTE deals.

B315s performs better than MF-283 (which is using the same Qualcomm chipset as B593), but MF-283 had serious firmware problems which could affect throughput.

As for chosing between second hand B593 R1400 and a new B315s R999, it is simple. Even you don't plan using Cell C (which B593-601 do not support), I would take B315s. If you can still find B593 in Edgars/Jet/CNA @R999, then would have to think twice.

Do you plan Unotelly streaming? Then B315s is better choice, as you can hack it to use Unotelly DNS. See:

Connected via Wifi ethernet switch to the router?
 
I thought this was the answer as well. Bought the gigabit switch and hooked up my devices. The devices sync at Gigabit speeds (green light on switch). The B315 syncs at 10/100 (orange light)...
 
Quick question: Those of you getting 70mbps+ speed test results, are you conducting these tests via a device wirelessly connected to your routers or via pc/laptop connected via ethernet cable?

Reason I'm asking, my speedtest's performed wirelessly are showing poor results. Nowhere near what I get from a wired test.

I assumed it's down to the poor wireless capabilities of these Hauwei routers?

I've connected mine to a wireless access point via a TP-Link 8970 and the results aren't much better.

Any advice? Am I missing a setting perhaps?

How do I link a pace ADSL modem router to the huawei b315 to act as a backup alternate internet? Tried wan to wan port but then adsl seems to be the main internet.

at what speed are you connecting to your wireless router from your pc?

I've only ever connected PC to router via wifi - I've often hit 70 mb/s on speedtest, not sure why you can't?

Basically you need a device that can switch intelligently between the WAN outputs of one internet gateway (LTE) and another (ADSL) based on specific criteria. On ADSL routers that support a second WAN input (sounds like yours does ?), there are usually a couple of different algorithms for selecting between the two internet sources. "Failover" should always be one option, sometimes with the ability to designate which is the primary WAN (ADSL or LTE in your case). Check out your Pace router's options in that regard (if you haven't already), or look for newer firmware that might offer more options.

If you need a better solution that offers more intelligent switchover options, you need to look at other ADSL/WAN routers or "proper" dual-WAN routers like the Linksys LRTxxx or Peplink devices.
 
Question: How does the B315 transmit its wireless signal? Is it through the external bunny antennas it ships with? Or are the mechanics all internal?

If one installs the poynting external antenna does the devices ability to transmit its wireless signal diminish?

External bunny ear antennas are for the LTE/3G signal only, not wifi. The wifi antennas are internal afaik.

The bunny ear antennas makes no diffidence to my LTE signal though.

Same here, makes absolutely no difference. But I do have great reception at home anyway. Maybe it would help in areas with poor reception.
 
Never evem bothered with the bunny ears. Waited for external antenna and got 5 bars. Worth at least 10-20mbps difference.
 
Colour me BLACK

So I purchased one of these -- in WHITE
Telkom tell me that is the only colour they have ?????
( Is this true ? )

Does anyone know where I can get a black colour version ? ( OK I am fussy )

Second question ;
What is the general consensus as to the best ( most increase in speed ) antenna for this unit ?
( The poynting XPOL-6-10M ? )
What is the price of the XPOL ? or other better antenna ?

Hi,

I am attempting to connect to my Hikvision DVR. I had a TP link router with ADSL worked perfectly, no issues. Now I've moved over to Telkom LTE with a Huawei B315s-936 router. The DVR is connected by LAN directly into the router and i have an access point connected into the router and my PVR into that. My PVR says it has no internet connection. When i use Fing (best app by the way, tells you IP addresses of all you connected devices since this modem is too useless to do that for wired devices) it tells me that the devices (PVR and DVR) are down. My devices connected via Wlan have internet. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the router?

I have double checked all the settings on the virtual server, WAN port 8000 and LAN Port 8000 using DynDNS. Still cannot see my DVR.
